Coach Search Options after Autry

I'm fine with Hodgson or GMac. It's true that if we pass on GMac and his coaching career takes off somewhere else, this fanbase is going to lose their minds knowing we passed on him. If GMac is successful at Cuse, he's our next Boeheim lifer.
Doug Marrone-Dream job.

Agree. I think he wins if he gets the full backing of the school. But Bh just wins and has turned around 2 schools. He is about as much of a guarantee as there is.

The other issue that has to be addressed with GMAC is this.
He is friends with AW and he is the one who paid Doty's NIL this past year.
The posts between Doty and AW yesterday prove that.
My guess is wherever GMAC goes, AW's support probably goes with him.
As SU effectively shut the door on AW (for whatever reason, it doesnt really matter) I would think this would be a black mark against him.
And a way for Gerry to lose his biggest financial supporter.
Thats a big reason to stay where he is or go to another program not called SU.

I don't know about what all your news feeds are pumping but mine is mostly full of Syracuse being the top job open on the market and also us tied to some top guys on the market...Feels good at least that other places don't think we're a joke.

1 or 2 places say Kansas St is the top job but not many, it's also telling that Schertz rejected them but now it's quite clear that he is in the mix for us. and most of the other opens gigs are way down the list.

Athletic says we get Schertz if the money is there and Hodgson if the money isn't there. The In family hire GMac is not ideal. Makes sense now with some of the rumors.

This is the big difference with the coaches coming up now, they know to negotiate the resources up front and play that game in backchannels before they even show up for the interview or take a job. Gives the university and the coach time to feel each other out on the resources.

Also No one wants to drag these things out with the portal looming. They want to be calling kids the night they play their last game and sell them, not be saying well I hope Cuse comes through with some extra NIL this year.

Brendan Marks was the writer, he says they think it will be Hodgson, which is telling because it prob means we are still not willing to overspend to get Schertz. Or maybe Schertz just thinks he needs alot more resources and is willing to wait for an $ED or B$G gig to open.

BH is a great pic, no matter the circumstances. I love Gerry and just don’t think it’s his time this go around!

Are we really at the point now where we have to root for Siena to lose in the NCAAs? Sounds like if he can pull the upset there will be a lot of pressure to give him the job over BH and the field.

BH was just on the Dusty and Danny Show on Sirius XM. Impressive dude. They asked him about the Cuse gig and how he keeps the team and himself focused with the rumors out there. He talked about how Red is a good friend of his and he hated seeing a friend lose a job, especially at a school he gave so many years of his life to. He didn’t try to say “I’m not going anywhere” which was refreshing.
Wow, he sounds like a real scumbag. Good thing some of our posters were able to tip us off about the true nature of this snake weeks ago. No wonder everyone hates him.

Bullet dodged.

One thing that bugs me is people posting how similar GMac and BH coaching records are because one has 23 wins and BH 22 and counting. But of GMac’s 23 wins 21 are Q4. Only 9 of BH’s are. He’s 7-5 in Q1 and Q2, GM 0-1. In Q3GM 2-6, BH 6-3. Yeah, similar records my sweet parootie.

You have to learn that the people wanting GMac don't care about the numbers. You can show them the numbers and stats until you are blue in the face, and it will not matter. Because feelings and trying to relive the "glory" days are way more important. It isn't rational because it has to do with emotion and not facts or logic. If GMac never went to Syracuse and was doing the same things at Siena as he is now, nobody would mention his name for our job because his resume isn't good enough, but because of feelings, he is a must-hire.

That's what frustrated me yesterday and made me lash out a bit. With this comparison and then comparing GMac to Fran McCaffery and few other examples, I didn't feel some of the arguments were either very informed or were being made in good faith (basically I agree with what phil77 says in his post)

"I hope the $ goes up" If Gerry's hiring doesn't excite donors, the money isn't going to go up. That's why the right hire needs to be made.

I’m fully in camp BH but if Gerry is the hire we need max funds for the staff and 15 mil plus for multiple years locked in. Essentially have Hop level money (as previously shared ) for Gerry.

Yup . A ton of the GMac crowd is much like my 70 year old mother. They are not ever going to watch a USF game or look at a net resume.

All these guys are just another name not from Syracuse. When they hear GMac they say yea that's my pick but the reality is she has no other idea any other candidate exists.

If he is our choice, and an agreement in principle is in place, my wild guess is he is already "working" on staff, roster, portal, NIL, booster networking.

I'm in the minority, but I hope Hodge goes on a long NCAA run. It will only add to the excitement, fan engagement, and basketball brand if/when the hire is officially announced.
I 100% agree with this -- I want USF to make a tournament run. Will add to excitement and make him a big name. It'll make recruiting the portal easier, will make donors more excited, etc. Fans will be excited to start the year. And the portal doesn't open until after the tournament now, unlike previous years, so we're not at a disadvantage in the portal if he plays the second weekend. They're already working on SU stuff it seems -- a recruit visited, whole staff was fired which indicates he has his ducks in a row on a team, etc.

Not to mention he has one of the best 2 guards in the country no one knows that hopefully comes with.

It is what it is.

The administration knows there is a divide amongst supporters on hiring inhouse vs. outside program on this hire, and that a large subset of fanbase will not support another inhouse hire as significantly this time around.

If they go with an in-house hire anyways, there will be likely be a fair amount of hat-in-hand groveling for incremental support due to the shortfall of fans that do not support that direction, but I am not sure they are going to be successful or convincing many in that argument.

People want change now. Period... and those that want that change have been very patient about it over this last 3 years with Red.

If they go in-house again, they are making their bed and will have to lay in it as far as diminished support goes.

It's definitely a known dynamic and RISK, and part of the reason GMAC is likely cool on the gig currently (or at least has major concerns.) He should be concerned about it, too.
