Coach Search Options after Autry

Look there’s a lot of smoke here and it’s CBB so things can get weird quickly but here are the points

BH has been openly lobbying for this gig for a year plus. He’s from upstate and wasn’t a player at a larger blue blood.

Our largest donor has been actively involved and just happens to be season tix holders at the same school he coaches at currently.

Red and his entire contingent were relieved from duty immediately and have at least insinuated they were submarined by same donor/coach candidate for over a year.

Board members have made clear they are going to get this right and make a big hire.

If Bovada still had the bet up for Bh +700 I’m somewhere between 1k and 10k on that bet.

I think the minute USF loses this is ovah
I see +400 as of now but throw that 10k on there and you will still have a nice come up if it hits. Might as well do 5 just because if your between 1-10.

It is also noteworthy that Providence has been noted to be talking to other prospective coaches and we have not

Financial investment in basketball comes in 3 ways: Program spending (coaching salaries, scholarships, travel,...), revenue sharing, and NIL. Let's take a look at each.

Program spending:
Syracuse's spending is not public, but I would assume Autry was getting paid, as a promoted assistant coach, either average or below average in the ACC. Here are the top 10 program spenders from 2024/2025 public records (no private schools) and doesn't include rev share or NIL:

Indiana $32 million (fired a coach so big expense)
Tennessee $23.1 million
Arizona $22.6 million
Texas $22.4 million
UConn $21.5 million
Arkansas $21.2 million
Michigan State $21 million
Kentucky $20.7 million
Auburn $20.5 million
Louisville $19.8 million

Other ACC schools:
UNC $16.8 million
Virginia $16.7 million
FSU $15.1 million
Cal $14.1 million
NC State $12.9 million
Clemson $12.8 million
Virgina Tech $11.5 million

Revenue share:
The estimate for men's basketball is 15% of $20.5 million = $3.1 million, but I have seen that some ACC schools are doing 20% or $4.1 million.

NIL:
The numbers are all estimates, but in order to be a top 20 spender, it looks like you have to spend $10 million+ in NIL.

So, to be a top competitive program in the ACC and nationally, you are going to have to spend ~$20 million on program costs (the listed costs were last season, so assume they are higher this year), $4 million in revenue sharing, and $10 million in NIL which gets you to $34 million per year for men's basketball. Maybe you can get away with ~$30 million.

If you are a top coach, you are going to want to see that level of financial commitment from Syracuse to take the job. Can Syracuse make that commitment?

When I go to Bovada I cannot find the bet. It’s been replaced by tourney games. I’m a little wary of any unlicensed gaming site given the criminal charges the AZ AG lodged against Kalshi today

Yup Gerry being linked to us probably got him a BC interview and maybe a GT interview, though I am not sure that happened.
Two interviews with BC, I’ve heard. But he’s not going there.

eh it's been explained how gmac would actually be a popular choice with the average alum/fan, it's just those of us tuned in (relatively small contingent) that would protest/leave - if you're going by "choice to (initially) appease most of the fanbase" criteria, gmac probably is the safe bet - hopefully not the criteria currently being employed

Exactly. I think he would be an easy sell to the average fan.

I disagree I think a large portion of this fan base wants or has been talked into an outside the su family hire.

Reading every post in this thread I think 3 things

1) l believe some posters love to argue.
2) l can’t believe some posters still call out insiders on information they are just passing along.
3) I wish I invested in a speed reading course.
