Coach Search Options after Autry

I do think it would be a hard sell for the first year frankly.
And without enough NIL the first year, you arent going to get top and even middle of the road coaches.

It really sounds like our antiquated ways of doing things and inability to find new revenue streams to fund both major sports adequately has come to a reckoning point with this hire.

The margin call was coming for bball if things didn't change.

It may now be here and you can't say it's not deserved.

I don't think he's a particularly special player, but he was definitely a poor fit for the system that Autry was running (insert "what system?" joke here).

I think George could be a fine enough starting PG in other situations but without much motion in our system, we were asking our ball handlers to be able to break their man down off the dribble and that's not really his game IMO.

Doesn't mean he's a good target for Kentucky necessarily but I think he makes more sense for other schools than he does for us.
george cant penetrate. he can shoot and passs...he can be a background player on a really good team but not the alpha. if a team has a sytem that doesnt need him to be able to drive and finish then he'll do fine

Ideally if Gerry were to come to Syracuse from his current roster, the following I think could be on an ACC roster:

Gavin Doty
Francis Folefac ( I think Bulldog04 was commenting on his frustration with #11 during the final, well he actually rates as Siena best defender and is only a freshmen)

That's it.

This guy?

Ohio University fired head football coach
Brian Smith in December 2025 following an investigation that revealed an extramarital affair with an undergraduate student, along with allegations of on-campus alcohol misuse. Smith was dismissed for violating his contract, though his attorney argued no written policy prevented student-dating.

How is that remotely close to the same situation as Hodgson and his fiancée happening to meet and form a relationship when they did?
I was upset with what BH said to Trey Autry. This stuff doesn't come close to registering to me. He fell in love with someone who fell in love with him. Good for them.

Dome will be empty again by the time we get back from Las Vegas trip. So many smart people make so many stupid decisions. You are going to get the same results as throwing money at Red. You guys are just lighting it on fire. Waste of time and resources. Such a short-sighted way of thinking. Hiring an underqualified coach because some casuals might fill the dome if we are winning, but the minute we start losing, which will be the likely outcome, then the program is dead dead. So dumb. I can't believe real people think like this.
you think red and gmac are the same caliber of coach??!

really???

you think red wouldve gotten siena to the NCAAT? like for real?

i'm not saying gmac is a slam dunk hire or anything...but equating gmac and red is "so dumb" and I cant beleive a real person would think like that

Well I got news for you about Gmacs offense….
I would definitely prefer an offense built around off ball movement but the style of offense that we've generally run here/what I assume Gerry was doing at Siena can work if you have the personnel, but it requires fairly specific personnel (i.e. guys that can win 1 on 1 as well as floor spacers and we've generally gotten one and not the other like Judah with no shooters around him or a bunch of shooters with no ball handling).

Definitely some truth to that but I saw enough from George this year to last a life time. I think his basketball IQ is low. A lot of poor decision making on the court. Dude shot 29% yet heaved up almost four 3's a game. No thanks.
Don't forgot about his Chris Bell defense.

Doty can do that in the MAAC. He’s that good for that conference.

Kiyan Anthony ISO ball here we come.

Good luck Nate Kingz we want you to come back and take 8 shots a game again sitting in the corner!!!

The scariest part- whoever new coach is, if they don’t win in year 1 or show signs of life. Some donors are leaving for good and then we’re in some serious serious serious trouble
Are these the same donors that were ok with JB coaching as long as he wanted as the program faltered? But I do agree that a quick turnaround is possible in this era and appreciate your info.

Considering he played most of the season with 8 scholarship players, 7 the last 3 weeks, and they played a harassing type of defense, I dont think he had any choice but to play a slow paced offense. But they had a lot of movement, not standing around waiting to hail a cab like SU.

I would have liked to see his offense in January and February if they hadnt lost so many players by the end of December.
Hail a cab

70 ppg. Mid range shots!!!! Yay!!
I agree with you wholeheartedly on your basic points about Gmac's offense at Siena. But I doubt Gmac, of all people, would back away from the three-point shot if he has players who can make them. My guess is that would be a huge portal priority if he were to become the coach.
