This is a good call out, I’m curious how the chancellor expects us to be a big time athletics program if the financial resources aren’t there.

Let's give him more that a few months of knowing this is part of 1,000 thiings that are part of his job. He will get there. He isn't even "officially" on the job yet. Let's not throw blame here.

Because NIL doesn't come through the chancellor or SU. This has been covered over and over. It comes through donors not touching the University in any way. It is an "off campus" function, off staff, off anything directly touched by SU. The AD is paid by the university. We are looking for NIL funds. Also trying to keep revenue up by having the dome filled, but most of our revenue goes to football. We need BIG NIL basketball donors. Technically off campus all together, but slightly on campus by just building relationships with those who could donate, and not alienating them. But Haynie can not "get us the money".

UGH. Now that I have read more posts I have to edit this to explain ONCE AGAIN, that our endowed funds are irrelevant to this situation. They are not generally available for this purpose. I am not going to give the whole example again that I gave earlier today, but rest assured that how much money SU has does not matter here.

I’m not talking about NIL. They’ve lost revenue by not having fans in seats, but money is still available for worthless positions. Revenue goes down when your football and basketball teams combine to lose fourteen games in a row.

It may be shortsighted but if they are in as much trouble financially as being described, I get it. I just hope any possible contract with GMac has performance incentives and a negligible buyout.

If we are really that cash strapped we can’t afford an established up and coming coach like Hodgson, Martelli Jr, Calhoun etc. we will need to dip into unproven assistants (Murray, Kimani Young) or GMAC or Gallo. GMAC makes a lot of sense given the pool we are competing in. He won’t be overly expensive and as proven or more so than this group.

I think Micron in the future. While it has been discussed that they are not sports minded in their giving, I believe that can change because it would be "community based" and eventually when Micron is up and running they will want all kinds of good community relations. Also individual executives at Micron might come to fall in love with SU sports. But Micron is not ready yet as a source. They need to be primed.

Someone needs to make a highlight reel for them to watch. Everybody wins when Syracuse wins. If you're only supporting your guy then you're not supporting SU.

Whether I’m a nut for liking the idea of Gerry (not a casual fan like mentioned earlier, 30 year STH), or you’re a nut for thinking that’s a horrible idea… Fact is no one here REALLY knows for sure how any one of these potential hires might do.

I assure you, someone in 1976 said “why did they hire that doofus from within? Why didn’t they hire _____?” No one knew it would grow to 30k+ capacities within a football stadium, many final fours and a National Championship.
All we can do is wait and see and hope for the best. If it don’t work, then we can complain to our hearts content.

I think you are arguing semantics to some degree. The affair with the student directly lead to his firing.

I like your spirit but hell no. We need a much better PG, keep Kingz and White, Donnie (whatever), and find some dudes to fill in the other pieces. We could also use a JJ type who can make baskets and Kiyan needs a caffeine IV during games to speed up his play. Then we might be able to get to the bubble.
