Coach Search Options after Autry

This whole thing has gotten irrational.. It’s more about hate for CJB and his control than about Gerry.

These comments about another 3 years of bad hoops if he’s hired is more PTSD

Let me ask the everyone a common sense question . Do you really expect Gerry to be Red and not succeed just because Red didn’t? Gerry is a better coach than Red

I personally think we all knew Red prob wasn’t the guy from the start and I know everyone is pissed that he was the choice but it’s done and Gerry is different . I think the consensus is Hop is not it either .. no disagreement there .

To me Gerry has shown nothing to doubt him and could be the same as BH or Murray or anyone of these young up and coming coaches
Gerry would be an upgrade in that at least he's had HC experience and success elsewhere unlike Red, but this hire needs to be as close to a sure thing as possible. We're not a serious or smart program unless we hire a proven winner outside the JB tree. The JB era needs to end.

Yeah, I'm starting to call bullspit on NIL suddenly blowing up the deal after they've been working on this hire for a year. This was fallout for Lally's scuttling Carparelli. The football posters can post whatever they want to try and make people think it wasn't.

Even if what you were saying is accurate (it's not) that was in regards to football NIL, not bball. There was no grand scheme to ensure Hodgson was the coach here starting last March, that's all twitter rumors and nonsense.

Or to bring him back in ;)
Bryan?

It’s simple: GMac is better than Red, but that decision was fumbled 3 years ago. It’s not GMac vs Red anymore.

The only reason GMac is under consideration is because of his ties to the school. On paper, there’s at least a dozen or more coaches that are more qualified than Gerry.

So if we end up with GMac as HC, it seems we settled.

That, plus the desire to make a clean break from the JB era and take the program in a new direction, which is sorely needed, are reasons the school should select a different coach.

Nothing, but I imagine there would be a lot of outcry from tax payers. Would be easier if the funding wasn't directly from tax dollars but you're right, you could message it as a supportive campaign to drive an ROI. You'd have to message it the right way.

Imagine the TV ads against those who voted for it, players getting into 80K cars, etc... :)

Or what about this. They exist but since nil has only been around for 5 years they never knew they had to buy players every year for Cuse to win. And now that we’re losing it’s that much harder to motivate them.

Meanwhile the SEC is like hah jokes on you guys. We’ve been paying players for a generation. They know the game, we don’t yet but the hope is that with Guys like Fran and BB and the guys after Autry we will.

One of my concerns with Gmac is that he has not seen how dirty it gets yet behind the scenes. We can’t live on this hope that we’re a great brand and money doesn’t matter.
The school thought the name on the front of the jersey, past history, playing in the dome w large crowds would be enough.

Same for the end of the JB era, he didnt work as hard in recruiting thinking, Im JB, Im a HOFer, famous name coach, were Syracuse, have the dome etc. Jim wasnt building the relationships needed in Recruiting but now Recruiting is not relationship but rather transactional.

I mean, most schools with an open seat are considering Gmac...

If he goes to say, Georgia Tech and makes them a winner, would you be able to stomach that? Would we as a fan base be able to stomach that?

Consigliere presented me with that and its something that has stuck with me through this process.

I am not sure that I or this fan base could stomach it.
YES! GT or anyone who hires a 2 year MAAC coach is taking a massive gamble! We don't want to take a massive gamble with this hire meaning so much for our future! If he works out for GT great for him. Maybe we could get him down the line later still with his obvious cuse connection. Would still be glad that we did not go all in on a guy with so little experience at such a crucial juncture for the program!

Weve been there done that before.

It helped significantly, unfortunately the group that was handling all of the administrative ends of it ceased operations.

It was far too much for a small group of us to handle on our own with contracts, lawyers, money management etc.
Can't we just have AI management?

I am losing interest as a result of team talent level being so tied to $$

It is “college” sports but the college part has been kicked to the curb. A player solely chooses based on money. Getting a degree is secondary.

I know that’s probably not the majority opinion. I still have season tickets but wonder why sometimes. I never questioned it before the pay to play system.
Your comment is valid and I think what a ton of Cuse fans feel.

We just did not grow up in a world of pay for play but unfortunately 2 dozen other programs for the last 30 years did and they got real good at it. Now that's all that matters.

I think also alot of our fanbase still thinks its dirty business. It's culture shock to the max especially for hoops. Remind me of Bane in Batman.

"You merely adopted the dark, I was born in it"

I don't know where that came from but if it was true he would have been hired last March.
They weren't hiring anyone last March because Red was guaranteed a third year for ... non-basketball reasons. The basketball alums got their third year with a promise of more money and he still put up a losing season. Now the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Just heard we are getting a nice little NIL boost for basketball. All I can share at this time.
I say this for comedy but also there is a little sliver of truth. How much would AW give in NIL to have a chance sit courtside with Bill Murray? While watching Luke Murray coach ha.

A smedium private school in the Northeast trying to compete at the highest level of college football is a fools errand (ducks)
I'm not going to pile on, I'm an admitted hoops-only, I understand the reality of what drive$ thing$ in bigtime college $port$ now, but... it just really sucks that the prospects of a proud, legendary program are hitched to the whims of football brain
