Coach Search Options after Autry

One big thing that’s hard to figure out is what kind of NIL support can we get with a BH , PMJ non family hire vs say GMac? It seems JB has some influence over that which sucks because that means bias is a real possibility if not reality. Is there enough that could be built on put together in just a few weeks with BB and everyone working the phones like crazy ?

Why are you so hostile?

Comeback to what?

I'm just confused why we need to pretend like BH is a bad coach now. His team had a bad first half and then played a good second half. Gerry's team played a good first half and a bad second half.
I'm not hostile. And for the record I wanted BH as the coach. I never said I wanted Gerry. But I did get sick of people putting what he was doing at Siena down because they were afraid that anything positive about Gerry somehow took something away from Hodgson. Oh, by the way, Siema was in the game the whole way against Duke. South Florida were waxed by the ville most of the game. Totally unprepared.

Great effort today by GMAC and his team. I couldn’t watch the game today but tried following score updates. One of the most important things a coach needs to do is recognize and game plan for an opponent. You also try to get your guys to play with passion, play hard and play together. We saw all of that today. Gerry in a short period of time has created a great culture at Siena and his players love to play for him. I have not been a fan of bringing back another SU assistant.

A lot of people want a guy like Murray who runs a “modern and effective” offense. I get it, it looks great at UCONN. Can Murray coach defense? Can he motivate and get players to play hard? Can he manage a game with substitutions, timeouts, strategy, etc.? Can he be a CEO and run a program? Can he handle the media? Can he recruit the kind of guys he wants? These are all questions a search group wants to know. I don’t know this about anyone who has never been on the sidelines in charge during a game. I’m going to try and trust Brian Blair that he’s going to do what’s best for Syracuse.

If you have to decide between two candidates that you think can do the job and one will bring you $9 million for salary and the other might bring you $11-$13 million? Who do you choose? I think that answer is very easy.

Yeah, that gets the bid. But the league winner is the team that finishes first, unless the plain meaning of Enlish has changed.
One thing I would say is that I would think the 1st place team in the regular season should get the auto bid. But that isn't how it works and if they say winner of the league on tv, they are always taking about the leagues tournament winner.

The people pooh-poohing a 6 point loss given the situation and the circumstances are WILD. This wasn't two closely matched teams with similar talent.
This. Some of these takes are wild on here. I can understand if you want Syracuse to go a different route. I was in on BH...but honestly the available group of coaches we are rumored to be talking with are all kinda similar IMO. No one really stands out. At the very least, Gmac should bring in some NIL money that we desperately need. Idc at this point as long as its no longer Red.

And it was USF’s
1) The comment was made in reference to the Siena/Duke game, not USF's.
2) 'twas but a joke—an old forum joke.
3) You don't really believe that this one game result is proof that GMac is a better coach than BH, do you?
4) re: Super Bowls in particular—when there have been 'blowouts,' does that mean the winning team was really 25 points better than the losing team?

As it is for every low-major that makes it to the tourney. With that being said, in their "Super Bowls," teams with Siena's level of depth, going against the number one overall seed, usually lose by 35 or more. This doesn't mean that Gerry is automatically the right hire. What it does mean is that he was able to coach an undermanned team to a very close loss, essentially on the road, against the number overall seed. Call it what it is. It was impressive.
I'm not saying it wasn't impressive.
It was. It was an impressive result.
Every other time that "Super Bowl" joke has been made in this forum, it has been received as it was intended. As a joke. Suddenly, when GMac is involved, it's a very, very sensitive matter.

Can't we all just get along?

BINGO..someone that knows what they are watching.. About the only thing i think GMAC could have done better on Offense today..was i think he could run better executed in bounds along the baseline/under the basket.. a few times late when it was really close.. i thought it could have been better... some of it was player execution but i would have like to see multiple screens set and some imagination to get Doty a clean look.. I would give his overall coaching performance today an A... He did not have the players but they found a way to execute enough to make it a very close game...
Agreed on the IB plays I tell our guys we are ALWAYS trying to score in Under Out plays.

I’m not sure how you can put Murray above GMac. I think Murray will be a great coach, but it’s a much bigger risk than GMac at this point.
Murray's ring(s?) came as an asst coach, GMAC's came as a player.

They were down 23 in the second half. 23 with under 13 to go.

Good on them for coming back, but don't make it sound as if it was neck and neck the entire game.

3 at buzzer counts but agreed, come on. Not their finest day.

Me after news of no Hodgson and the Siena/Duke game.

I understand everyone’s feelings. But I’m a little leery of going with a guy who has only coached 2 years based, essentially, on the result of 2 games. If Siena lost the MAAC tournament final, we’d be talking about the 3rd place finisher in the 24th ranked league. That just doesn’t scream “hire me” to me.

THIS. I mean goodness. People acting like this was a 7-10 game or something. This was the third-best performance by a 16 seed since 1996. (The top two being the two who won)

I don't think it matters. I think it was always going to be GMac once JAB got involved

Question- would you take PMJ with 4 million NIL or GMac with 12? Also how do you sell PMJ on only 4 mil or even say 6?

Outside hire with the money we had this year is a no brainer but seems that’s not the reality we are looking at, especially right this moment.

They weren’t in the game for 35 minutes- they did fight back hard but it was deer in the headlights for a while. BH didn’t manage the game well for a long stretch but when he turned the screws defensively later on they made a nice rally. End of game rallies are fun but in a matchup where they should have run even they were outplayed and he was out coached by a team down its best player.

Unprepared is maybe an unfair word. In a direct comparison his team was not as prepared as GMac had his team.
Aka pulling a Red

Well, a number of schools hang banners for finishing first in the league standings. What would you call them, participation banners?
