Coach Search Options after Autry

Could the news be breaking before this special edition of Orange Nation?

Regardless it's a good idea to get on the radio. He's prob sick of people blowing up his phone after yesterday with gmac and even before then with BH.

At the same time if Gmac is not announced today people will be equally pissed and blowing up all weekend.

Maybe gives him the chance to say they're still in the process, which I would take to mean it is likely not gmac. Will be a busy day on this thread. I predict 700 pages real fast

As a fellow Fultonian that left for many years and came back, yes...times have been rough on this area. It is sad, but it is what you make of it. We live here strictly because our parents are still alive and well and help a lot with raising our children. Fulton pumps out some extremely hard-working blue-collar types. Some sneaky good athletes have come out of this tiny run-down city over the years. I can tell you all as someone who knows Gavin's mother very well, you will not find a harder worker as evident from watching any Siena game. I harass his mother often about how hard she is on her kids as she coaches almost everything from soccer, lacrosse, and basketball but those kids all work their butts off because of it. I know that fans are going to love this kid in Orange

They just talked about the Siena game on CNN.
Heaped a lot of praise on the team.
When is the last time SU was ever in the national non sports media and we were being praised.
I want Gerry because I feel he is a winner and can frankly save our program.
Not sure if he wants us now though.

But if nothing else the moment they decide to hire him casual fan interest will go thru the roof.
It will literally be a huge injection of hope.
Not for nothing but the last 2 years have been soul sucking.

Martelli may be as good of a coach, but the huge injection of hope and excitement will not even be a third of what GMAC can generate.
great post man. but everyone needs to lose the "he may not want us". Trust me, he does.

Nobody releases a statement to say they turned down a job unless they're trying to save face.

100% in agreement -- the most plausible thing is that either he wasn't the slam dunk candidate, or the writing was on the wall that the University was going to explore other options / go in a different direction.

That type of press release is what happens when you try to get ahead of the story, to control the narrative. A "you can't fire me, I quit" scenario.

If we ran five Fulton kids out there, we're still dancing. Fulton had a major league pitcher (Pete Gray, look it up), and bowling Hall of Famer Mark Roth lives in Fulton. And don't get me started on wrestling. Storied history of sporting excellence.
Must admit I'm a Fulton native. Graduated GR Bodley 30+ years ago, before the family moved (wisely) to Fayetteville. While I have lived in London for the past 18 years (so my memory may be hazy) never heard of Roth. Did a search for Gray and not seeing the Fulton connection... The wresting history is a fact.

Devo was apart of the bridge to the golden years of 2009-2014.
That’s certainly a way to look at it. I’m not anti Devo per se. my understanding is that he’s don’t some good stuff with SU and in Syracuse. The reverence is over the top though.

So the collective minds have determined it’s GMac. Send the white smoke and shut down this thread. ;)
GDI. It's Orange!!!

On the topic of assistants.
If we hire GMac I really hope we can get Devendorf on staff. I have no proof for this but I think he’d be a killer recruiter. Just seems like he would resonate with the kids. He also has that same passion for the game as GMac.
He will probably bring Ben Lee. He was the assistant he took from Hop's former staff in Washington.
He was the head of recruiting and also the assistant in charge of scouting at Siena. Per Gerry, his strategy to put Folefac on Kennedy was key to beating Merrimack.
On Selection Sunday, he literally spent all night in his Siena office going over as many Duke games he could find so he could brief the players and coaches of any tendencies/weaknesses he found that the team could use to put together a strategy to win.
