Coach Search Options after Autry

Insiders: mobilize!

What’s the word?
We can only afford to pay the coach in popcorn and Allen Griffin has accepted the position. Impressive resume including assembling the most expensive roster in TBT history and leading Boeheim's Army to a TBT victory before losing to a team made up of former D3 players. When the team scores 70 moving forward it's no longer going to be taco time, but popcorn time.

Everyone is frantically changing their narratives about McNamara.

A lot of busy mind shifts in the Syracusefan smoky halls! What a glorious day.

The absolute line I would still draw in the sand is to not bring in the whole Blackwell AO assistant crew if we do go with Gerry, which I still think would be a shortsighted bad long term decision. But at the VERY least, bring in an offensive minded assistant who brings a clear vision for offensive sets. I don't know nearly as much as some here on the specifics, but it seems like Gerry is not gonna bring in some elite sophisticated offensive system that gets us back on track in that department, like a Luke Murray would. If you look at their season as a whole that seems more clear.

I am still overall anti hiring gmac and think one game should not be the end all be all. Social media acting like it would be a guaranteed slam dunk is clearly clouded by recency bias. But it is getting very hard to deny that he would be excellent at getting maximum effort out of his players and encourage a far better culture than most coaches. Those are key points in his favor. They are far from everything!!! But they are points in his favor.

These takes are getting annoying. I'm sure every school wants to have resources. If you don't have it, you can't do it.
It is, Georgia Tech will never and I mean never outresource several ACC programs. For Georgia Tech, it's not really about being a player in the ACC, but nationally to be the conference that gets 12 tournament bids and gives them a chance to get to the dance.

IMHO….one of the most over hyped correlations people try to make, is how effective assistants are under JB. JB didn’t allow them to game manage one iota. And at the end, he didn’t want to recruit kids that had to be managed.

We didn’t know what Hop could do and we didn’t know what Red could do and now at least we’ve seen what Gerry could do.
To take that a step further for context JB had been coaching for 35 years before Gmac and Autry started as Assistants. Talk about being dug in by that time, not that he was ever a guy asking for 2nd opinions anyway

What 4 schools was he as HC at and why is he seen as a builder? AT Arkansas State, his turnaround was not particularly awesome and his 2nd year was Sienaesque but with no conference title or ncaa invite. Seems like a lot of hype. If wiki is correct, South Florida was 38- 27 the 2 years prior to him getting there including 25-8 in '24. Good coach? Seems like. Great coach? Remains to be seen.

You need to read better. He coached at 4 schools; I didn't say he was head coach at 4 schools.

As an assistant at Buffalo and Alabama, where both schools achieved the most success they've ever had.

Then head coach at 2 schools, compared to 1 for Gerry.

At Arkansas State, he won 20 games both years (Gerry only has 1 20 win season at Siena).
He also appeared in the two "undercard" tournaments at Ark State, the CBI year 1, and the NIT year 2.

And now South Florida is having a great year and is in the NCAA.

So, I'll ask again: Who has the better resume? Gerry's biggest success so far is a close loss to Duke.

Could've it always been Tony Skinn and that's why George Mason had a little slide towards the end of the season? The collapse happened after the BC loss FYI. They did show up and beat St Louis by almost 30.

I want players who will stay four years, coaches who wear tailored suits and make honest women of the ladies they knock up, and while we're at it, let's outlaw dunking.
Donna Reid is on the phone calling you. The phone is in the hallway.
Had to reuse my Donna Reid reference from a couple of weeks ago.
For many who don't know, Donna Reid was a TV show in the late 1950s/60s and she is the housewife and fits the above scenario time wise.

and as dasher has made clear time and again, you can't really evaluate GM's recruiting acumen based on his time here as an asst, as he was forced to go on the road and be directly up against K, Roy, Bennett, etc, because jb had retired from the road

Skinn not exactly setting the world on fire. (never heard of him before)

I would go with GMac over Skinn at this point. My biggest criticism of Gerry is that I wanted him to be more seasoned, but from the replay his game plan yesterday, beating Scheyer at the adjustments chess match (as much as he could given his pieces), and basically drawing blood from a stone have alleviated my major concerns.

I'm still really concerned about how awful it would be if it goes sideways a la Red, but I think Gerry's ceiling is astronomically higher. Hopefully if he's the guy, he's ready to put it all together.
