Just read when you get up to go at 2am, it saves time in the morning.I wake up to another 35 pages. This is exhausting
As someone who was part of that contingent many, many years ago, I concur. You all are forgetting about the boards European contingent. My best work often comes in at 130 am est.
Chris Mack. You wouldn’t take these guys over…..Gmac or Martelli or Skinn??? Surely you jest. I mean, they are only proven, winning coaches at the highest level. Why would we want that?
Seems clear from the communication, Blair, credible journalist in Thamel, etc that Cuse is trying to go big here. With GMac as a solid backup should that not materialize. If GMAC was the guy for sure, I think we’d already know. Time is of the essence once you have your guy. The fact that there’s been no announcement in my mind, confirms there are other potentially preferable candidates out there.
Not to mention, I think Thamel would have said something.
I think Gmac has the most upside. Hometown kid turns Su around will pack the dome way more than just a guy. Perfect storyline.I’d still be concerned if the reason for hiring GMac isn’t that they think he’s the best coach, but that he’d provide the most money. I really don’t like the idea that our coaching position is for sale. And money is likely to be a short term boost. If we don’t win, it will dry up quickly. A winning program would provide a continuing source of nil. And anyway, big bucks alone does not guarantee success. Remember Rutgers a couple years ago had 2 of the top 5 draft picks and went 15-17.
So I was recently in Houston, and the rodeo was going on, so there were people in town from all over. During a long delay at the airport, I was hanging in the lounge and struck up a conversation with the guy next to me. Turns out, he's pretty high up in marketing at Hertz and he's a big college sports fan. I told him the Dan Mullen story with all the rental car jokes, and he loved it.
Then he leaned in close and told me I could never repeat this, but Hertz was actually in the process of working on a new NIL deal with a soon-to-be Syracuse head coach. He said they had the letters Hertz in their name and they were going to legally change their name to capitalize those letters in exchange for $10M a year of NIL money.
So, I don't think we're hiring Josh Schertz. But we might be hiring josh scHERTZ.
I asked him if they'd bump it to $11M a year if we agreed to call him HCHERTZ instead of HCJS on the forum, but that was a no go.
Exactly. Why does it matter what casual fans think about coaches they know nothing about? What you said: They just want to win. And when they hear we’ve hired a proven winner, they will be excited. My brother and our best highschool buddy want Gerry. I told them about Hodg a few days ago... They had no idea who he was... Mentioned Schertz, TJO, and Byington to them today... They're like "Who??"
A lot of casual Cuse fans know nothing outside their own orbit, especially on coaches... So not surprising.
Bring someone in that can bring in players and start winning, and they'll all be on board fast. Winning solves a lot
But neither is any other coach being talked about. Again I have said get Wright, Pitino, Sampson or Bennett and I’m 1000 percent in over Gmac. Other than that Gmac shouldn’t pay for Autry’s mistakes. He should be next coach.Let’s get serious. Gerry coached a great game against Duke. He had a good, not great, regular season, finishing 3rd in a mediocre conference. He shows a lot of promise. But he’s not John Wooden. We really need to pump the brakes just a little imo.
Go Wolverines!Big next two days especially if certain teams lose.
Yes every three hours my prostate alarm wakes me up.We're now 16 minutes without a post. I know it's 4:39 am EDT, but doesn't anybody have to get up to pee at night?
Just because he's in the mix doesn't mean it will happen. I would imagine there are a lot of moving parts. I'm just glad we still have choices and haven't just made the easy move. If GMac is announced, we will know they did their due diligence. There's no freaking way you hire Gerry if you can hire Josh Schertz instead.
Gerry had a nice season and one impressive game that he lost. Schertz turns around programs wherever he goes and wins a ton.
If SU can't rally the donor class to support Josh Schertz then we deserve to suck for eternity.
What are we doing? What's going on?
Hence my use of the word "if".Just because he's in the mix doesn't mean it will happen. I would imagine there are a lot of moving parts. I'm just glad we still have choices and haven't just made the easy move. If GMac is announced, we will know they did their due diligence.
Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things...I'm hoping this finds us well.Even if GMAC was the guy, I imagine the negotiations take time as far as salary for himself and staff and amount of NIL.
And who is to say they might be dragging it out a bit to see just how much more NIL they could get if GMAC is the coach.
The average casual fan wants GMAC. He is remembered as a winner and we are sick of being losers and the joke of the ACC for the last 5 years or so.
Anyone who watched that Duke game had to be impressed. And more people nationwide probably watch part of the first two days of the NCAAT than practically any other time of the year.
Given GMACs history as a player and winner, how he turned Siena around as a coach from 4 wins to 23 wins in just 2 years, took Siena to their first NCAAT since 2010 and then led the number one team in the country up till the last 4 minutes on CBS, I can see why many who have not even considered donating to NIL would be opening up their wallets.
The SU marketing plan for the basketball team would pretty much write itself.
Hope is a powerful thing that we have not had for so many years.
GMAC gives the casual fan hope and gives many of the die hard fans hope.
Yes, if you go just by metrics, he is not the best candidate out there.
But heart, belief in yourself and your team and proving you believe you can always win, mean a lot too.
GMAC is the embodiment of the self fulfilling prophecy. He believes that he can win and often he does even in the most difficult of circumstances. BE tournament as a senior and the Duke game show that in spades.
Only if G-Mac is an elite coach. That’s far from certain. That’s a good way to frame it. We've had multiple bad years, and money doesn’t show up when you’re losing. VC/PE/donors all behave the same; capital follows winners.
When times are bad, no one’s returning calls.
GMAC creates hype and get things moving. If he wins, it becomes a flywheel.
Add in a new AD who’s entrepreneurial and willing to sell any and everything (naming rights, etc., in a good way), and there’s a path back.
Fair pointyea but, that was a point in time. he may not have had any interest then. something may have changed his mind.
100% with you, but less than 24 hours ago I would have assumed he was the only candidate.Hence my use of the word "if".
Folks here are increasingly Gerry Uber Alles. To me, he's the consolation prize if all the much better candidates say no.
And how long it takes him to eat breakfast.Does anyone know what time Dasher wakes up?
