I'm still holding out for TJ . I think mystery man still might be him and would be a huge coup. When we started asking questions initially he had some buzz. I think Schertz was tossed out there for misdirection. I also don't work for the CIA or do I?

Absolutely. While Schertz has been successful, he’s not a household name. He’s not Pitino or Hurley or some other notable coach. If it’s him, many people are going to shrug their shoulders. He’ll need to rebuild the Syracuse brand, and it may take 2-3 years.

Take this for what it’s worth from Siena side of things and some pieces I have kind of put together.

1- Siena is doing a lot behind the scenes to keep Gerry. That doesn’t mean they would be able to keep him from Syracuse obviously. But they are trying to put a package together to make him happy and content. May make it more expensive and/or more of a roadblock for Syracuse to get it done. Gerry is seen as being a cheaper option for Syracuse, so now if they have to up their bid, does he look like as good of an option?

2- Yes they will probably lose Doty, but if they can hold onto everyone else from this years roster, they are anticipating a special year next year. Could be a fantastic year to ‘Cash in’, with the anticipated openings.

3- he turned down BC and GT last week.

4- he has ankle replacement surgery scheduled very soon. Has been in a lot of pain the last couple weeks. This is a big time recovery and would deffinetly hurt his ability to hit the ground running at a new job. Would deffinetly hurt his ability to do what needs to be done in year 1 form any program.

5- he is a prideful guy, and as many have mentioned on here before, he was hurt that he was passed over the first time for Red. In addition, Siena is bending over backwards to keep him and make him happy. Meanwhile, he looks like Syracuse’s 3,4,5th option. That in a way kind of hurts too, do I want to go back to a place that turned me down already and then I’m a backup plan? Ultimately it’s easier to say no when the offer isn’t actually in front of you. But it can be a thought, kind of a slap in the face while your current school be-loves you.

6- Jim talking in the media and spewing his name for Syracuse isn’t really appreciated by Gerry. It’s more of a distraction and a nuisance. Albany is 2 hours away and Jim has not been to one Siena game to support Gerry.

7- Jim hates Nate Oats and it’s no secret apparently. Part of the reason that Hodgson was blackballed by Jim.

That's odd that Jerry didn't leak to Goodman he turned down GT and BC. Weird

I don't think you give the average fan enough credit.

Maybe it takes a few of them a couple of googles, but there will be a lot of excitement. They'll get over it not being Gerry.

If we have waited another week then GMac is definitely not going to be the selection.
Edit: I think if goes past Monday that would be the indicator.

If you are a fan of college basketball, you know Schertz. If you are a syracuse-only fan, you might not know Schertz.

This would be an exciting hire for people that are huge fans of the sport, and the syracuse-onlys would get on board pretty quickly after we score 100 in our opening game this year.

You don't hire a coach based on name familiarity or fan favoritism. In fact, that's usually a sure fire way to make a bad hire.

But it does help with NIL support and attracting recruits. No small thing.

Yeah, I don't know why people think this... at all. He's 3 years removed from being head coach. We haven't made the tournament in 5 years.

Will he give his opinion? Of course. Will people listen? Sure. Will he have sway in the final decision? Absolutely not.

Schertz rolled Georgia and I think Saint Louis will play Michigan pretty well though I don't think Avila can manage against Mara and Landeborg for 40mins.

Exactly and I don't understand why no one is talking about the players. Fans go to games and watch games to see players hoop. It's not to see coaches pace the sideline.

Not even considering the kids at STL right now. When the portal opens every guys is going to answer the phone for Schertz. These kids want to make baskets.

Gmac is going to bring in a certain type of player in the mold of Doty which is great but it's going to be a do more with less type of mentality, and no doubt we will have some guys with toughness and a spine which we've been sorely missing.

Then again money as always talks loudest. If gmac has the warchest that changes alot of things too when gets our in the portal.

My wife watched St Louis with me the other night and asked why we don’t play that way. She was shocked with the lack of dribbling and pace they got up the court. She knows very little outside of ISO ball. Fans would come quick.
