If BH saw it as a problem it’s a problem. I’m not an insider but it seems to be a well known aspect of this job in coaching circles and it’s not helping us.

If you think Bryan Blair can come in and operate completely independently of JB and his relationships to donors and the BOT I’d like some of what you’re smoking.

The one thing I cannot stand that’s percolating through former players, Julie, etc - is the notion of keeping it in the family or that there’s a “Syracuse way”

There’s only been JAB and then we kept it in the family and it sucked.

There’s no “this is how we do it” … the one time we did it the way they are advocating, it got us here

I’m all in on getting the best available HC (and maybe that’s Gerry) but can we please dispense with the JAB ego propping

The Syracuse Way worked to an extent until about 2016. It's a different game now. We need different players.

The perception will disappear & no longer matter if we get GMAC with an NIL war chest, make big offseason staff/portal moves, and ultimately win games. If we can get a Schertz or Mark Few great, that sends a message now that we are serious. If we get Gmac and all the above I mentioned happens, also great.

What makes this such a home run? He’s a good coach but idk I just don’t see it. Like our issue with Gerry his resume isn’t the greatest.

He was one of the better coaches out there who was an elite recruiter and rebuilt two programs.

The reality is that “keeping it in the family” led to Hopkins getting misled and ultimately leaving and Autry getting the HC gig when he was grossly underqualified for it.

The reality is that JAB didn’t really do a great job of developing a coaching tree to realistically lean on for this “in the family” concept. Outside of Pitino, which was 50 years ago, the guys that got to move on to head coaching were average to mediocre if at all. The one guy who he really groomed for a transition was screwed over by not wanting to let go and led him (Hopkins) to seek a power conference HC gig practically on the moon which led to his demise.

At the end of the day, it’s all about control and ego. And if he wanted to have that level of control post retirement, maybe he should have focused a little harder on succession planning.

We need the best candidate for the job. Period. Enough with the nonsense.

Our offensive and defensive ratings were both outside the top 200 this year.

Well personally I think that's exactly what he was hired to do. Be independent. If I'm wrong then I'm wrong. If he doesn't make the right call then it's BB that will get canned not someone else and he'll only have himself to blame. Just saying we dodged two AD's that were bought and paid for lackeys for different factions, BB was the surprise so I doubt he has the allegiances or concerns everyone else here has. Then again money talks.

No doubt in my mind that JB's get off my lawn pressers, his willingness to throw players under the boss and his daddy ball tendencies got the attention of prospective recruits and their parents. Public image of a program matters.

If we wanted gmac that bad how come he hasn't been hired yet? Autry almost beat Houston. Just saying

What are his accomplishments as a head coach though? 2 years in a bottom feeding conference with a nice conference tourney run and keeping the game close against a lackadaisical Duke?

His playing career can be a talking point but it has little to no impact on his coaching future. Plenty of other great college players couldn’t cut it as head coaches at a power school. Without proven coaching success, we’d just be hoping he’s able to do something he hasn’t yet.

Has anyone else noticed that the first year of Red's tenure was the only year that the product (team) was remotely watchable? Who was the Asst HC at that time? Years 2 and 3 were horrid. Coincidence?

With all do respect you are wrong. We have roughly 15 peer schools for hoops in ACC, Duke, UVA and NC when they get a new coach are outliers. Recruiting has never been more cut throat and you don’t think program perception is significant?! Believe what u want but other then NIl, and facilities, program perception is a top recruiting tool.

I pretty much agree with this, but would also point out gmac does not seem to rely on any "syracuse way" in his aporoach to basketball or running a program. Seems like a still evolving adapter to the modern game and the new realities
