There’s been plenty of info that indicates we did a large search with multiple candidates. I still think Syracuse, in its current state, has budgetary constraints. They weren’t willing to offer a 5 year, $20million guaranteed contract plus $10-$12m in guaranteed NIL the outside coaches were demanding.

GMac is obviously a candidate we can afford. They’re hoping he can deliver results and build the NIL commitments up based on the on court results he hopefully delivers.

If Syracuse had unlimited resources you would have seen a different hire. They don’t, so they have to go with the hire within their budget range and develop a plan to raise additional NIL so we can get the program back to a competitive level. This won’t be a return to the glory years with a one year turnaround. It will take a couple of years to right the ship.

Resources are perfectly fine. Were a top half ACC school in NIL in years with the least enthusiasm possible. The only info we got was Goodman pushing info out on Hodgson. Don’t need to be most plush to convince more mid major coaches who have been successful to at least garner interest in the job.

It wasn't a real national search. It was all fake to get to GMac like it has been the plan for weeks. People who believe we did a true national search and GMac was the best aren't being real. This was the plan all along especially after he won the MAAC tournament.

The people that are freaking out wanted the best possible coach and think there were better options that Gerry right now. NIL support is great and important but coaching is more important. Also, some probably are worried if things don’t go well the fanbase turning on a legend like Gerry will just be sad.

Agree. I don’t think people realize what 3-4 mil extra buys for a hoops roster. You need 7 good guys. Just look at Miami now. They bought 3 studs and may knock off purdue
