There’s been plenty of info that indicates we did a large search with multiple candidates. I still think Syracuse, in its current state, has budgetary constraints. They weren’t willing to offer a 5 year, $20million guaranteed contract plus $10-$12m in guaranteed NIL the outside coaches were demanding.
GMac is obviously a candidate we can afford. They’re hoping he can deliver results and build the NIL commitments up based on the on court results he hopefully delivers.
If Syracuse had unlimited resources you would have seen a different hire. They don’t, so they have to go with the hire within their budget range and develop a plan to raise additional NIL so we can get the program back to a competitive level. This won’t be a return to the glory years with a one year turnaround. It will take a couple of years to right the ship.
