I see that perspective and in my more optimistic moments, I agree. The problem is if people are only talking about giving NIL money so "their guy" gets the job. Then, they don't actually follow through. There are a lot of basketball alums who love to talk about this stuff and I never hear about them giving significant money.
And if I am really being honest with myself, a lot of this is simply a gut feeling. The thought of GMac sulking on the bench during a bunch of losses while the fanbase turns on him flashes through my mind a lot. I still believe he is a risky hire.
