Coach Search Options after Autry

I feel better about the hire after speaking to a few people who coach lower level college ball and follow Siena more closely than I do. It’s not Red 2.0.

Its been a few years since our team was capable of dribbling the ball up the court and making chest passes...improving fundamentals will win us 5 more games per year just for that!

Not sure what position Folefac would play in the ACC but I think he could body up a lot of 4s. He’d be a really nice bench piece. One thing I want is for Gerry to bring in a big physical 5 man like Arizona, Texas Tech, Carolina and Duke have. I feel like that would help with the rebounding issues we always seem to have. Also allows for a very athletic 4 man.

Funny, but I got shouted down last summer for saying the exact same thing.

"Oh, that's not how college basketball is played these days. It's all abut mobile bigs and everyone switching."

Also funny how the Final Four almost always is made up with teams having 2 or 3 truly big "Bigs", not stringbean guys like Kyle.

He can't NOT meddle for 2 ego-driven reasons:

1. It's still HIS program and he's entitled to.

2. He's the smartest person in any room and knows what's best for the program.

Now you can certainly disagree with those statements ( I know I do)...

But for # 1, it doesn't matter if you disagree or not, because he's had 50 years of control and just proved again he still has that control... and he's obviously not at all interested in ceding that control where large program decisions are concerned.

For # 2, doesn't matter if you agree either (you are stupid if you don't agree, BTW)... And see # 1.

I’d describe him more like a DaJuan Coleman. He gets blocked quite a bit inside. High motor though. Seems like a solid bench piece.

I have not spoken to anyone, but I'm more encouraged also after I got over my initial disappointment at thinking about some of the possible outside candidates.

The only coach I haven't eventually been able to get excited about is GRob (RIP). I've been wrong many times, but I knew that was a disaster from the start.

Then he should have made the tough decision and elevated Gerry over Red. There was no chance SU passed over Red when he was the #2 guy on the staff. Jim knew the culture of the school he worked for.

He's over 70% from the line and had nearly 80 assists. Kid has some basketball skill.

Red was the guy post-Hop getting big recruits, not Gerry. Combine that with JAB wasn’t hitting the recruiting trail that much, AHC title made sense as a way to try to elevate Red’s credentials in the circuit.

Ok I rarely have any insider info but I heard the same story twice from different people, BH was the number one choice but was never offered the job. He was NEVER given the chance to turn it down. My friends wouldn't say what but something scared the university off, not the search committee.

Something to watch for but I wonder if SL will try and make a play to join the BE amidst the conference carousel. Clearly they are going for it in terms of raising their hoops program via their ponying up money to keep him…

I can’t believe he still has control over the program. Weak people involved with and running our program letting Boeheim pull the string like Emperor Palpatine. “Somehow Boeheim returned.”

he was the head coach for 47 years, his name is synonymous with syracuse. If you ask casual fans of schools across the country what they think of when they hear "syracuse" 1a and 1b out of their mouths is snow and Jim Boeheim

Not many can jump like Kyle. He is a freight train and insanely strong for only being a freshman. Going to have to adjust in a bigger conference by not being able to bully his way for points. But the 3 pointers vs Duke were a nice surprise.
