I’m sorry, I don’t give a flying flip about supposed NIL resources, we are by far the best and most prominent basketball program on this list. Let’s step up to our stature and go get the best coach available this offseason.

I think you massively overrate the program compared to how coaches will. It’s going to be very hard to get Syracuse back to prominence - and coaches know that is the fan expectation. If I was the top coach - I think there will be several other schools more attractive than Syracuse.

Not what people want to hear - but it’s likely reality. I think we need a lower regarded rebuild guy to get Syracuse back to NCAAs regularly, and go after a top coach when that guy leaves for money we can’t possibly match.

A lot of the middling SEC schools are probably well over 3m/year and closer to the 3.5-4m/year range. Cuse is going to have bring the financial power in some combo of NIL, HC, and support staff.

I do think Autry was probably a poor fundraiser he doesn't seem like a guy that can talk to donors and work the room. It's not for everyone but I do think he left money on the table. A new charismatic coach will gobble up everything they can.

Well, coaches are looking at how successful can I be? What is the salary? Not that great. What is the Nil I will have at my disposal? Not that great. What are the resources behind the program? Not that great. And lo and behold, behind the scenes, there isn't near the interest in our job that we would wish there was. None of us would like to hear this. But sadly, it is the situation we are in. We need the next guy we hire to do a great job. We like to say around here that we are Syracuse. And then someone posts about when was the last time we were ranked during the season?

Whatever heat Red is at, is the same for Earl Grant at bc.

They’ll hire gatto I bet. I still think they make a run at Gmac. Hopkins interviewed there once too fwiw. He’d be a good bc hire imo.

  • I can’t speak to NIL, but Wildhack said it was upper half ACC.
  • Syracuse definitely has the best tradition of the bunch
  • In an excellent, but not overwhelming conference
  • Expectations should be measured after the last 10 years, especially the last few
  • You’re replacing Red Autry, not Jim Boeheim
  • SU is very patient with coaches. It’s not an SEC pressure cooker where you get fired after 2 mediocre years. Heck, even Autry got 3 years.
  • Traditionally among the top fan bases in attendance.

Well, then we must have a lot of guys interested in the job, right? You and I aren't the people that have to be sold on this.

Ehhhh I think we’ll agree to disagree here.
We are a top 10-12 program…still. We aren’t a blue blood but we are tier below.

We have a unique arena that is quite literally one of kind. That’s the fanbase has proved will show up and sell out 35k.

We have a natty and numerous final fours and a bunch of elite 8s and sweet 16s

We have put numerous players in the NBA. Some really good damn players. Numerous hall of famers. We have rich history and tradition

There isn’t anything else going on in Cuse. Cuse basketball IS IT. They are the hot commodity in the winter in upstate NY. You win here and you play here. You are teated like a celebrity

You have the Melo center

The only thing that will hold some coaches back is if they are money hungry. We aren’t gonna pay our head coach like a Kansas, Duke, UNC or Kentucky. We are well in the top half of the league for NIL per Wildhack. And there are some rumors that we spent $9 million on this team. It’s clear we are serious about basketball. We just need a coach. Lastly we can bash this team all we want. I truly think this team is talented. If we had a legit coach, this is an NCAA tourney team that could make a Sweet 16. I still believe that. We just have a completely inept coach. Like a reallllly bad coach lol

Appreciate the optimism but just to correct you on a few points.

-We are at best 7th in the ACC at worst 10th in the ACC in NiL.

-The ACC is the 3rd to 4th best conference depending on the year

When it comes to salary and NIL resources if ChatGPT is believed we are between 40-60 in the league overall. Let’s say ChatGPT is wildly underestimating us I don’t think anyone one would put us close to the top 25 or 30.

Alot of the fanbase thinks we should be a top 25 team based on vibes and tradition. The frustrating truth is that We are playing in a semi-pro league with no salary cap and are not willing to spend more than a mid tier team should

Yes a mid-tier team should be able to make the tournament every year especially with the inevitable expansion coming. That’s why we’re seeing coaches get canned but I think we can safely throw out ever being ranked in the top 10 or competing with the big dogs on a regular basis.

Idk if 9mil is correct or not. I just know that’s a rumor going around. I do know that Freeman, Starling, George and Kingz were paid a pretty penny though

why do people still think this?

We just aren’t. Zero national relevance. Zero recent success. I don’t get it. You all are living in the distant past.

True, Syracuse has great tradition and historical relevance. Also true, that’s ancient history at this point. Not sure anyone cares very much when they’re looking at a job offer.

No, but we still have the Dome that rocks when its filled with 25,000+ fans. And that wasn't that long ago.

Syracuse has a ton going for it. Plus, if you win at Syracuse you’re basically a god in upstate New York.

I can see Schertz having his pick of programs next year and even though we could make a call to him, it’s possible he’ll pursue a different opportunity. However, I don’t see any way Hodgson passes on the opportunity. He’s a Southern Tier kid that grew up loving basketball and would travel up to coach a Syracuse basketball camps. SU is very likely his dream job,

Griff and Red and the assistants raised $9m but they didn’t spend that

BH would indeed kill for this job. He has been sort of lobbying for it for two years. Having said that, he is in the minority of guys out there that are clamoring for it.
