Coaching Changes

After a 27-10 loss to North Carolina over the weekend, and with a trip to a ranked Miami squad coming up this weekend, sources tell FootballScoop that Fran Brown is making some changes to his Syracuse staff.

Sources tell FootballScoop that the changes involve quarterbacks coach Nunzio Campanile and pass game / wide receivers coach Myles White.

Nunzio, a former standout high school coach at Bergen Catholic (NJ), is in his second season on staff after previously spent a number of seasons on staff at Rutgers and the 2023 season as the interim head coach for the Orange. Nunz is expected to move into a different role within the staff.

Someone probably leaked a tidbit to them but without knowing the facts. We'll have to see what Orange whisperer Pete Thamel reports. So far nothing.

With a crazy coaching carousel at the Head Coaching level, we should expect the same for the assistant coaches. Fran definitely seems like he is thinking ahead on this. If he knows someone better for these positions that will be available and he could get, he’s going to make changes.

I posted two days ago that Nunzio would be the first coach fired and was told I was full of ….

He is not getting fired but Fran had to do something with the QB coach. It’s an embarrassing that a P4 is forced to play a walk on lacrosse player at QB because their three scholarships QB’s are not capable of executing the offense or completing a pass,

I have got to believe that Gattis will be the new WR coach.

Gattis’ primary positional expertise is in coaching wide receivers. In addition to coaching wideouts at each school he was a coordinator (Maryland, Miami, Michigan, co-Alabama), he was the passing game coordinator/wide receivers coach at Penn State (2014-17) and also coached the unit at Vanderbilt (2012-13) and Western Michigan (2011).

I saw staff changes and my eyes lit up thinking it possibly could’ve been about Erob 😂
ERob's defense outscored UNC for half a game. ERob's defense our scored Nixon's offense...

In the past five games... we have scored 60 points. 12 PPG.

Our defense has contributed 1.8 PPG... 7 by the defense against UNC. A safety against SMU.

Not to mention giving Collins a short field (15 yards or less) against Pitt with a turnover.

Tackling remains a HUGE issue. When we tackle well, we defend well. When we tackle poorly, we have bad results. Does not seem to be as schematic to me...

I'd say maybe get used to it, to some degree.

Jakhari Williams is the one that really messes us up here. Injury, not ready for primetime, whatever, he's been around long enough that he should be the one stepping up rn. Other than him, you've got 2 transfers and a bunch of true frosh. In the transfer world of NIL and unrestricted movement, you're going to end up with new guys frequently who are being paid, and need to learn the O and get ready ASAP. That means lots of attention to those folks and not so much for the younger development guys. If you run out of high-touch guys you were counting on, you'll be in this situation. And the development guys won't hang around forever if they keep getting jumped by portal additions, so there go the 2- or 3-year guys who may know the offense pretty well but aren't getting the PT.

At this point I don't care about the season. Angeli was a hit, Collins needs to go, and Williams probably needs to go as well. Not sure what to make of the true frosh but something sure doesn't seem right about Carney. Interesting offseason for sure.

The D is currently ranked as the 2nd lowest in the P4 in total defense. Scheme is absolutely an issue.
