Cole Swider: Pistons

Nah. Eating, sleeping, and breathing the game at 8 doesn't equal success. It equals burnout and increased injury. Kids can wait until high school age before specializing. There are all kinds of kids that looked like phenoms when they were young that get surpassed as they get older because kids develop at different rates. Ulitimately talent shines through.

Even if you were right, is it worth the trade off? The increased rates of child athlete injuries and burnout for that 1% chance of getting a scholarship or that .00075% chance of being a pro. It makes more sense that kids use sports to have fun and be healthy, what they were originally intended for.
By kid I assumed older than 8, don’t know many 8 year olds that don’t do the stuff you mentioned.

The point is, kids shouldn't be specializing at young ages. Get rid of the off season specialized coaches and the year round training at least until kids are older. There are kids playing one sport year round as early as 8 or 10. There are parents hiring specialized coaches and strength ane conditioning coaches for kids that young. Others are playing two sports at once because there is overlap with one youth league sport and a different school season sport. Young developing bodies need rest, even into high school. Dr, James Andrews said high school baseball pitchers should have 3 months per year they don't throw a ball, any kind of ball. I believe he also said he doesn't believe a kid should specialize in one sport until their senior year of high school.

We should not be sacrificing our kids on the alter of sports.

The data related to increased injuries in youth that specialize in a sport vs multiple sport athletes is a little misleading. The higher rates are largely driven by two sports in boys ……football and baseball.

1st professional game. Had the stress fracture in his foot.

Cole and his G league team play at 3pm today on NBA TV.

After several good games in the G league Cole made his debut with the Lakers and got in with a minute to play and promptly hit a 3.
Watch out Melo! Cole's got you in his sights.

NBA is flipping around to different games. Lakers are on now at start of 3rd but Cole isn’t in right now.

Pumped for Cole, but need to share something I learned tonight. Maybe it’s about the weirdness of the nba, maybe it’s about JB’s inability to accurately gauge local talent.

Anthony Lamb, one of the best players to ever play at UVM, is on a 2-way contract for the Warriors. He’s played 23 games so far this season, and was the warriors leading scorer one night this week.

Anthony Lamb is originally from Rochester. New York.

Same high school — Greece Athena — as John Wallace.
