Cole Swider to hire an agent and declare for the NBA Draft

Things may change, now that Cole has made his decision.

And if not... we're going to roll with a group that is awfully inexperienced / unproven at forward.

I wonder if this helps us convince Anselem to reconsider.

Hard to say on Frank- not sure if any of the frosh really were a threat to his playing time.

I would hope it gets the staff moving. This would be about getting a starter not reducing the opportunity for minutes as backups for the frosh

Exactly! Not like we are losing a lottery pick or even a fringe 2nd rounder.JB may have even encouraged this departure so he can move in a different direction on how he wants next years squad to look and play.
I’ll believe it when I see it.

They must change now. We need a veteran player who can score, i dont care if hes a tall shooting guard or a forward who can shoot from deep and can score in other ways.

Best of luck, Cole. Great fire, competitive energy and you better watch out if you hit a big shot as Cole was coming at you with fist pumps that look like they hurt!

So thankful for his game this year. Looks like he busted his arse for the team and fans.

LOL This is a lot of things. Good news isn't close to one of them. Unless you want us to lose.

I wouldn't say its good news. He's a veteran, depth, and a capable score/rebounder, on a team that will lack those things.

But he was also a role player on one of the worst teams we've fielded in last four decades. If we're concerned, it's for other reasons, really.

I'll wait to see who they bring in to replace him, but I doubt they land someone better. For that reason, I'd rather he stayed.

I disagree. I think he showed at the end of the year that he was better than that. With the other pieces we now have, I think he could have been a difference maker. Now we have to replace that and we aren't even sure that we will try to replace that.

Someone convince me this will not end up being Jim Boeheim path of least resistance - Cole scholly goes to Ballard, done and done.

PS - Good luck Cole. Please list your school as Syracuse in your pro bios going forward.
We are in deep trouble if that's the case.

Can live with one - but there needs to be one. If we don’t add another, it signals yet again this coaching staff isn’t serious about winning.
Or... It signals that they are much higher on JBA or our incoming guys than the recruiting services.

If that's the case, I think I trust JB's scouting more than the knights of the keyboard who put out rankings for advertising revenue.

JB sounds genuinely excited about this class.

Even if the combination of forwards gives us pedestrian numbers, we can win with them playing good defense and rebounding.

I personally think that Williams is going to be so much better next year that losing Swider won't hurt that badly, and one or more of the freshman will be good enough. A lot is riding on Edwards, Girard and Mintz... But you could say that about our top players every year.

Good news? Unless you are referring to the timing, losing Cole Swider is not good news.
The timing is the only good news. At least we have time to pick.someone up now.

It has to be the incoming guys.

JBA isn't a part of the calculus. Or at least, he shouldn't be. In 22 career games he's averaging .3 points and .8 rebounds a game.

That means he gets stats on accident. We need a player that does things with some intention at least.

I really hope they get somebody good or are right in their estimates of the guys coming in.

We need to be thinking both at this point. Hedge so that you lose less games not that a recruit enters the portal the following year. The missing skillsets doomed us this year.

I don't think both can be true. If our strategy building this roster is not to get someone really good because we are worried about Bunch of Taylor leaving that's a huge mistake.

Honestly it's more to do with the sentiment shared that we won't go to the portal for his replacement. If it was a full go to hit the portal- while still a bummer, wouldn't feel as damning.
Let’s hope we bring in an equal or better player to replace him. Given what a lot of people have been saying recently, it may be unlikely. That’d be yet another case of roster malfeasance, but I won’t judge that until we know for sure.

Yup, on both counts.

Agreed.
