Cole vs Quincy

I'm asking for an exception to this rule when discussing DeShaun Williams..

Well there can be exceptions for off the court issues.

Yea it’s classier to kick our own players while they’re still here working their tail off.

Nobody should be kicked. Current nor former players.
Who’s kicking anyone?

If Iregon let’s him shoot 8 3’s/game they will underachieve.
Agree, that was a big sticking point why he left, he wants to audition for the NBA by hanging out on the perimeter and shooting 3s. JB said "No, you're a better inside player." Quincy said "See, ya." I agree with the coach.

It was simply a misalignment of priorities and needs. JB needed him to be a banger to win games and Quincy needs to shoot 3's to play professionally. I don't blame either party. I wish Quincy well.

I don't blame Quincy for transferring. I'm just not sure he went to the right team to be able to gain the role/stature he wanted.

Thing is, he might want to reconsider his path to the NBA. He's the same height as Dennis Rodman & seems to have a knack for rebounding, one that multiple coaches are impressed with.

He might do best to try to market himself as The New Rodman who also happens to be able to hit a three point shot now and then.

In other words, continue to develop his three pt shooting abilities without putting that pressure on himself while focusing on his efforts to stand out with his ability to grab rebounds near the basket.

Otherwise, look at all the dead eye 3 pt shooters out there whom he wants to compete with...

Q will be fine at Oregon. Woodys the one I’m not sure made the right decision in where to go. Never did get the Okie St thing. They won their first game last night by 40+ and he only played 10 mins and it seems like he was about 10th man. For his own good I hope he has patience.

Not sure he would’ve played here either though.

Probably not. But he went to a place so far away that he’s unfamiliar with and probably won’t play there either based on that one game.

And Altman won’t do that if Q isn’t making them. But the coaches just told the kid what he wanted to hear to land him.

All Quincy is showing is that he’s not a consistent three point shooter. JB already knew this and he tried to use Quincy’s strengths which made him productive.
He would have been featured by JB, who at the end of last year was touting him as a possible AA this year. Kid likely made a mistake.

Q grabbed 8 + boards a game. i ain't knocking that.
(swider avg.d 2 in 3 seasons )

Guerrier was our worst forward defensively last year out of himself, Griffin and Braswell. He really didn’t help us much on that end of the court and the numbers back that up. Not trying to trash the kid, but I think some overestimate his loss.

I thought he was an important defensive rebounder.

JB probably would have done that to keep him, and that would have hurt this team, IMO. This team has terrific chemistry, but is so, so thin.

We can't take another real injury that keeps a guy out for a big stretch of time.

There are literally *no* replacements; our rotation will just get smaller, and guys will adopt new positions.

Not sure we are that thin? When Sid returns we have 3 centers. We have 4 serviceable forwards and 3 very good ones. 2 guys who can play PG. Thin at the 2 but Cole, JG, JB can play up top if needed.

Sid is unlikely to play a big role this season, so just scratch that. He's the first loss.

We have 2 centers, 3 forwards and 3 guards. A nice 8 man rotation.

We need every single one of them to stay healthy. We could absorb 1 more injury and still get by with only 7 guys, but it would be very early in the season for 7 guys to have to play all those games without let up.

Jimmy is playing for the name on the front of the jersey

Quincy might be playing for the name on the back

I don't buy that. And there's no need to smear the kid -- he played hurt for his, always played hard, and played through injuries without ever complaining. All while never opening his mouth, calling attention to himself, or demonstrating any sort of selfish attitude.

I have zero problem with him wanting to show that he has NBA skills. Doesn't mean that he has them, or that he'll achieve that goal, but I don't blame him for being career-focused. Making the NBA would entail life-changing money.

And in our system, he wouldn't be able to show those skills. So wish him the best, and be glad that we replaced him with JBIII and Swider.

Goodine is the one that surprises me the most - thought he'd be a really good player

I'm not sure I was ever that sold on him, but I will say that I am quite surprised by his collegiate path thus far considering he shot something like 52% from 3 as a HS senior.

This is a good take.

Amen!!

What Quincy did is really no different than someone in the business world changing employers because his or her path for advancement seems stymied.
He wants to be a pro basketball player.
At Syracuse he would not be able to develop some of the skills he believes he needs.

I, for one, hope he is All PAC-12 first team. He's already pre-season 2nd team.
