He is going to be very tough for Jimmy B to figure out this year. I just dont think he deserves to play. This identical to last season, where we start him and fall behind by 10 points... then we take him out and catch right up. I have been to all three homes games (yes, i know its early) and he is CLEARLY 3rd on the skill chart out of our centers.

People say he needs to be in there for his offense, but in all honesty he doesn't have any moves or touch. he also misses 70% of his FT's. He still brings the ball down and gets block/stripped by everyone. His defense is terrible. Jimmy needs to start Rak and Grant. Forget about the super-sub idea.

Or start Keita. He is more than capable.

as much as boeheim struggles year after year on free throws, he really struggles with post offense. there's a play when grant is posting up continually and yhe feeder who has ample opportunities to deliver the ball doesn't. grant was wide open at point blank range' he didn't learn those shaping up moves here, but rater in high school or from his father. big men need help sciring, first from the guards and the conception of the coach.

It's been 3 games, 90% of the team is figuring out their roles.

nah, its been 33 games for DC. Kid is a good player, but with our current roster he is the 10th best player. He will be lucky, and so will we, if he logs 5 mins come ACC time.

I actually...agree with this? Must be a Monday.

TBCuse, we've been over this. But first you don't think DC2 deserves to play? Wow. You have a MickeyDee and you wouldn't play him? In that case we just have differing opinions, and IMO, your opinion is insane.

Do you remember our last two seasons final losses? Each time the other team possessed a post presence that SU lacked. A good coach that has the strategic advantage of a post game has a significant advantage. At some point it would be nice for SU to be the team coming into the big game with that advantage.

DC2 is our best shot at getting a post game. SU moves up in class to NC contender when/if this occurs. The best way to accelerate this development is to give DC2 game time. Starting DC2 ensures game time.

What's a fair stat line for him in your opinion. For instance what would you be happy with tonight from him.?

Let's just play Grant 40 minutes a game, and burn him out before January.

If JB hadn't played DC2 we could have beaten Colgate by 25. What was JB thinking?

But to be fair I don't know what the line on the game was, and I didn't bet heavily on it.

Pretty arrogant and ignorant statement. There is PLENTY of roster to go around, while keeping Coleman on the bench where he belongs. CJ - 35 mins. Rak - 30 mins. Keita - 20 mins. Grant - 30 mins. Roberson - 5 mins.

that would burn people out? LOL. ok man.

That is tough to answer because i dont think he should play at all. He will probably get 8 and 5 tonight.
But the point is, for over a season now whenever he starts we fall in to a hole. If they are hell bent on bringing Grant off the bench, start Keita. No, he wont score 8 points, but he will rebound better and our D as a whole will be much better.

its really not even a debate honestly.

No more arrogant than demanding that Coleman be permanently benched.

Agree to disagree then. Coleman will never be a post threat. And we surely didnt lose to Michigan because of a lack of post threat. And for that matter, we certainly didnt WIN our national title because we had one.

Coleman is our 3rd best center, by a large large margin. If you want to start each game down 5-10 at the first TV timeout just so we can "hope" DC2 gets it together, then that is certainly your right. Next topic i guess. Sorry if this has been covered, i didnt see any posts.

I dont want him permanently benched, but he should NEVER start. Rak is just a better center than him.

10 and 8 should be easily achievable for a 5* center against St. Francis.

I'd rather see him at the beginning of a game instead of crunch time. Play him where he can do the least damage ... which JB thinks is at the beginning of each half.

I like Rak at the four. I really really like Rak at the four even if its only 10 minutes a game. I feel he is underated and should be taking 3-5 midpost shots per game on top of his low post ones the next 10 games.

In two of the three games this season dajuan has had a combined 3 shots. Rak had the same exact stat. Thats 1.5 shots per game over a 2 game stretch. They need to look to score more. Posting up is like a isolation, or a go to guy, its part of basketball.

Tired of seeing other teams bigs score in the last 3-4 years over our double teams, when we haven't had one big who can score one on one. We have had 3 mcdonalds all americans who were all sophmore or Jr's and they have probaby combined to average less shots then half of the division one teams in the country. Alot of midmajors have better scoring bigs year after year.

As for Dajuan starting I like it. I feel Roberson could be ahead of Dajuan by midseason, but I really really like Rak getting minutes on the wing and thats not happening with keita at center. Rak was recruited as a pf.

I don't get why Rak isn't attempting 12 shots per game once in a while this year, he must be tentative and not so confident on his offense. I am at the point where I want him to try reguardless without being yelled at by the coaches when he does. Hes a Jr now and should get a free pass for trying.

Then yes we disagree about DC2 ever being a post threat, I believe he can be. Also the point about a post threat was that it is a great advantage for a team to have. I would like to see SU have this advantage soon. Having a center that has an offensive game is a huge advantage that is rare in college hoops.

You may rank DC2 as 3rd but what about offensively? And what about rebounding?

Do you believe that game time helps develop players? Because what about next year, where do you have him ranked? Seems like he would have to be at least 2nd on practically anyones list.

I think he is ridiculously overrated as a rebounder and i think his offensive game is non-existent If pounding the ball in to the ground and putting up a contested layup that gets blocked most the time is offense, then i guess he has some. I believe Rak is better at every part of the game than Coleman (and i am NOT a Rak fan).

The team flows and plays better than Coleman is not on the court. its just a fact. As for next year, yes he would be our #2 center based on talent. Rak-Grant-McCollough seems like the pretty clear staring front line. If Grant leaves, then Roberson.

I dont see anything from DC2. I hope I am wrong.

LOL. then why play him at all? We arent Cortland State. We are Syracuse University. We have depth everywhere.

I really hope developing the post game is a point of emphasis tonight with JB. Last year it seemed every early game had a planned inside post attempt near the beginning of the game. I think JB needs to make this team aware that they need to feed the post.

You must be able to make these arguments in your sleep by now. ;)

game time, yes. Starting a game... absolutely not. Roberson, BJ, Patterson are all getting game time.. and none of them start.

I really like that JB is doing this now. It is one of the changes that I have enjoyed. I may get a little defensive about it. I don't know if a lot of these people didn't see the early days when JB seemed to substitute for foul protection only.

I hope JB continues in the other direction, that he not only starts DC2 but instructs the team to feed him the ball early, like last year. If DC2 fails to apply the teachings he could get the hook and have a teaching moment.
