OK ... as you will now see I am not a gambler. I have heard people talking about moneyline parleys or betting the moneyline (?) ... what does that mean?

and, I am pretty sure I understand the over/under ... you can bet either one but the total score has to fall either over or under the given score? ie: 120 over Loyola ...so the 2 teams have to score over 120? ... and do you have to pick the winner or doesn't that matter b/c you are picking the score?

Do you bet online? My son is in LasVegas ... would the bets be different (I know the odds might be)

To use tonight's game as an example, South Florida is -3 vs. Syracuse. If you bet on Syracuse and they win, or lose by less than 3 points, you will win $10 for every $11 that you bet. If you bet on USF and they win by at least 3 points, you will win $10 for every $11 that you bet.

Now, Moneyline is a different type of bet, you're strictly picking who you think will win, there is no point spread. The odds are USF -165 and SU +140. That means that for every $165 that you bet, you will win $100 if USF wins. You are getting less of a return in exchange for a safer bet. If Syracuse outright wins the game, you will win $140 for every $100 that you bet. You are getting a higher rate of return in exchange for a riskier bet.

Over/Under is simply the combined score of the two teams.

Well explained, eao. I prefer moneylines. I'm not a fan of spreads. I hate the idea that if I pick UNC to beat UMD by 10, and UMD hits a half court shot as time expires to cut the lead to 9, I lose. I'd much rather take less winnings and bet that UNC will beat UMD by any score rather than let one meaningless play ruin it.

 Wait ...I know this is stupid ... is that like betting the horses ... at 3/1 you get $6.00 fo every $2 bet and get your $2 back? I mean it wouldn'tmake sense otherwise I guess ... bet $165 and only get $100 back ... so actually you get $265. How come there is a negative (-) in front of the 165 for USF and a (+) in front of the 140 for SU? I am sure you can bet multiples of that such as you can bet $50 and win $70 if you bet SU?

Same question for above .. if you beat the line you get $21 back ... I guess that would be a duh otherwise noone would bet...

- means favorite
+ means underdog
example: USF is -160 over Cuse tonight... if you bet 160 on USF moneyline, if USF WINS by any score, you get your 160 wager back plus 100 in winnings.
Cuse is +140 vs. USF. If you take the SU moneyline (+140), and bet 100, if SU WINS by any score you get your 100 wager back plus 140 in winnings

and you can obviously bet any amount... bet $325 on SU winning and you'd get your $325 wager back plus (325 x 1.4 = 455 in winnings).. essentially lay down 325 on SU and get back $780 if SU wins

Aha ...Thanx East ... 1 question down a million to go before I have my son running to the casinoes

So in my OP, Wake is -120 over loyola... lay down 120, if Wake wins you get the 120 wager back, plus 100 in winnings... I like playing it that way rather than a point spread... as one last second play can ruin your night

So... on Bodog they have FSU at 1.35 and SU at 2.65 for a straight up bet (moneyline?) ... that means for every 100 bet you get back 265 for a bet on Syracuse? Where are the odds for the point spread? and what is a moneyline parley?

A parlay is just making more than one bet... all tied in so you need to win all the bets in a parlay to win the parlay... greater odds = bigger payout but obviously greater risk.

Example... Tonight take UNC, Duke, UConn, UK, Kansas on a moneyline parlay. If all 5 win, you win the parlay. If any lose, you lose your entire wager

And I'm not sure about the 2.65... probably a different method of representing the odds... is that for football tonight or bball tomorrow?

moneyline parlay is the same as any parlay except your betting on the moneyline...example of the one I am doing tonight is UNC -450 Duke -850 Miami -675 and Vandy -1100...when u parlay those into one single bet the odds come out to -142, most people cringe when they see these types of bets because of the odds of 4 teams having to win but in college sports these r gimmes in my book...im laying 200 tonight on that so ill win 140 if I hit it...hope that helps :)

You and I bet alike, my friend

Are you betting with a European book? Those look like the way they represent their odds.

Bodog lets you choose how the odds are displayed. American, decimal, or fraction

Can I ask a semi-sensitive question? Who does everybody bet with? On-line? and which is the best on-line site?
