I haven't done any formal research but based on watching a significant amount of games it obvious to me that college basketball is not doing well. I'm not sure if it's related to the revolving rosters, a lack of good coaching, declining interest from younger fans, or the fact that product on the floor is really poor.
Regardless, the sport is in a serious downturn.

It’s almost unwatchable for me. I grew up watching Lawrence Moten and John Wallace grow from freshmen to superstar Seniors. There seemed to be true school spirit amongst the players as recently as 3-4 years ago.

I think that the only solution is one where if a player commits to the NCAA, they need to play three years (like Baseball) before being eligible for the NBA Draft. Let the others go right to the G League.
It won’t solve the issue of transfers and lack of loyalty (from the players and schools) but at least it’s a start.

The NBA will really struggle without a strong NCAA. There are very, very few players with brands showing up at the draft anymore.

I stopped watching us due to a poor product on the court … but I also have no motivation to watch other college bball. If we were still in the Big East then I probably would. That’s part of it. In football I don’t have the same feeling, I’m cool with us playing anyone.

NIL and the portal are killing college athletics.I know I know the poor kids have been abuse for years and it’s about time we took care of the poor abused kids.
Hope everyone is happy now that the athletes are being treated fairly.
I am happy they are treated fairly. Blame the ncaa, not the players.

I think Syracuse should get 10 points for every 3 pointer.

That’s just as realistic happening as what you just posted. Theres a players union that won’t allow that to happen

Across the board, NBA ratings are tanking too

It’s because the ACC and Big12 aren’t competing money wise with the SEC and Big 10. This is not sustainable for a lot of these programs unless they start putting more money in for coaches,NIL,facilities and more.

The networks created this problem.

The only basketball worth watching is March Madness and the NBA Playoffs.
You might not say that if you could see the games they play on the outdoor courts in the park around the corner from me.

Correct me if Im wrong but then why hasn't a team from the SEC or B10 won a NatChamp since 2012?

To be kind going back 44 years those 2 leagues have won 12? Long before what you said had any valid point...So the SEC and B10 have gotten worse since big $$$...

To take that a step further the B10 and SEC have only had 6 of the last 32 Final4 teams!

Spend wisely.
and think thoroughly.

Plus every year we are hammered with the parity in college ball. Resulting from what people have described in this thread mostly portal ànd leaving early.
Flip the SEC and B10! Flip means ☆¥♡♧!

I agree that the product is poor. And the lack of continuity is the biggest issue. I don't even know who is going to be on the Syracuse team year to year, much less opponents. It's not a lot of fun to watch games where you do not know a single player (or even a coach!).

Plus, with the mega conferences, you don't even know your favorite team's conference mates because you play them so infrequently Conferences need to be small enough to be able to play opponents twice in a year.

Ratings are an issue but the foreign players who avoid the AAU development are tremendous when they enter the league. Marketing stars via college hoops is missing for sure but NBA talent is insane.

NIL is fine (players getting paid) but it does need to be restructured and regulated. Fan/booster collectives should be banned. There needs to be some kind of cap. It really should be structured as revenue sharing through the school along with advertising deals not a free for all driven by deep pocketed boosters.

The portal has been a disaster.

Sounds like Europe should just market the hell out of their own league and pay their stars to stay put. They’re keeping the NBA on life support.

Would love nothing more than to see American basketball and it’s me-first showmanship die an ugly death.

I was trolling some UNC folks yesterday on reddit. Surprise surprise they can dish it out when times are good but they can't take it.

Someone listed off the ACC teams that have current Head Coaches that would be considered a joke compared to their predecessor. Not just the ACC though across the whole league. If you just roll through the list it really is ridiculous.

I know it's a different league now but we were just 1 of many schools holding on to old head coaches for far too long because no one wanted to be the guy to rip off the bandaid.

Hello, class-action lawsuit!
