This has been HCSS's mantra for years, and the execution has been lacking at times. Coach McDonald is a talented OC with a bright future, and I am sure he will get the most out of this experience for himself and for this team.
Like just about everyone I was surprised when the news broke. I heard about the coaching decision before I heard about T-Hunt's injury. Once I heard that T-Hunt had suffered a broken bone and would be out 4-6 weeks the coaching change began to settle better in my mind. I'm sure many variables factored into HCSS's decision to promote coach Lester, and I bet HCSS balanced the pros and cons and in the end he made a decision that he is comfortable with. In my mind once it was known that T-Hunt had a broken bone Lester as the QB coach with OC experience was going to be more involved with this offense going forward whether he was officially promoted or not. No one knows the young QBs like Lester. I'm excited see how he handles the challenges he faces with this opportunity.
The results around college football this past Saturday are all the evidence I need to know that this team has a lot to play for even with T-Hunt down. If they can build confidence and play a smart and an aggressive brand of football they can find a lot of satisfaction going forward. We've seen flashes of the potential with this team, and they just need to focus on what they can control which is competing with themselves every day so that they can apply the preparation on game day and execute.
