Cooney: Confidence is gone

I disagree. The bad form is a byproduct of confidence.

Well you're wrong. If it was a lack of confidence he would have stopped shooting.

No.

If anything, it's a sign of overconfidence when you start just launching it without trying to get your feet set, fading away, etc. Only time confidence comes into play with fading on a shot is closer to the hoop when you're scared of a shot blocker.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Keep laughing. A confident shot is when a shooter steps INTO the shot. TC was fading away. Guess you never coached, huh?

"That's not confidence, it's poor technique."

guess problem is he hit the poorest technique shots today. he's missing the easy looks.

Then about 60% of G-Mac's shots were lacking confidence, I guess, considering the majority of his attempts seemed to be off balance.

It could be confidence, but that's a basketball cliché for shooters. He was missing side to side, so it's probably something the coaches will get "straightened out."

I will only say this again once. You HAVE to give uncs d some credit. 9 of his 12 3 pt shots were tough shots. He missed 3 easy ones and made 2 of the 9 tough ones. Watch the game again as fatigue led to some of the fading the rest was UNC's defense.

Which goes along with the fact that he was drifting rather than going straight up and down for most of his misses. It's not a confidence issue, and frankly it's kind of foolish to suggest it is. You don't shoot that much if you have no confidence in your stroke.

He's not gonna be the 50% 3 pt shooter he was in non conference. He's not gonna be the 20% 3 pt shooter he's been so far in conference. He'll have games he goes 2 for 10. He'll have games he goes 4 for 7. In the end he'll finish around 37-40% and we'll be national champs.

1. Cooney is a 2G who runs off screens all game. He rarely creates his own shot off the dribble, so when does he ever step into his shot? Rarely. Setting your feet off a curl and squaring up is different from stepping into a shot.

2. No. I haven't coached...yet. But, I was also born in the 90s and I've played this game much more in recent years than you, I can assure you that.

Wow he was brutal today missing bunnies as well as 3's. Tyler was off too. And we still won!

See, this is a weird but wonderful theme this year. Someone sucks in a game relative to what's expected of them, and SU wins anyway. Ennis scores 20 one day, but 0 on another. Kinda unsettling - but they still play efficiently in every other way the team needs.

Also, I'd like to see an example of just ONE player in history who didn't have many off games - especially outside shooters.

Wake me when Trevor threatens GMAC's career record of 700+ trey clanks.

We disagree. That's fine. I really think his poor shooting was in his head; yeah, he kept shooting, but most of those were wide open looks he needed to take. The fact that he made the one shot as a the shot clock was winding down, helps my point. That was a sot he didnt have time to thing about.

He does seem like he is trying to get his shot off quickly, which forces him into taking the off balance ones. Would love to see him to do more shot fakes and blow right by his defender like he did for his first bucket. And really wish he had passed the ball before he missed the bunny.

I think overthinking and lacking confidence are two different things here.

Can I like this clear not over thought response 100 times?

Again, I disagree. His poor shooting was in his head, thus, overthinking.

Well, considering you're the only one with this thinking, and there are about 10 of us arguing the other side, maybe it's in your head.

He could make a living off that pull up two. Thats something andy started doing and it really helped.

What a crappy post because you are serious by the OP. He rushed most of his shots, he was hounded almost every shot. Still hit two BIG threes. And still he was active playing d and making an impact. Confidence isnt the issue.

Exactly. Would help him get some more space for his three because they would have to respect the dribble drive as well.

Yeah iommi you are one of the biggest fans on here but I think you are jumping the gun a little. If trevor has 3 or 4 clunkers in a row I can see the logic. A couple against miami and unc is a little early brotha.

He's had 3 poor shooting games in his last 4, hasn't he? You won't be concerned if he's like 3-13 against BC?

That's why it's an opinion. It's my opinion. I hope like he'll he shoots the ball great against BC. If he doesn't and you're not concerned about a developing bad trend, then I don't know what to say. Vitale had his Cuse pompoms out today but he referenced Cooney's recent shooting slump repeatedly.

Hey, it is a concern that he's in a slump. I just don't think the reasons are the same as what you are saying. He's rushing a bit, but he's not pressing like he did last year. It's not the hot potato it used to be. I really believe the offense has changed to focus much more on CJ and Grant to a lesser extent now that we are in ACC play. I'd like to see more of the double screen (he pops through first followed by CJ) but I can only recall them running that once or twice tonight.

2-5 vs emu, 2-12 vs miami , 3-8 vs tech, 2-12 today. Just up and down past couple. And 5-8 vs nova before that.
