Cooper, Williams, Howard, Edouard

Edouard? He didn't get kicked off of the team or fail to qualify.

So much for all that.

Fortunately no one was raving about Cooper or Howard.

point?

cooper - playing time
howard - kicked off the team because he cant follow rules and maybe also playing time
williams - doesnt qualify and gets booted off his prep school team
edouard - i dont expect him back but this is on him

Is this an implication that someone should be held accountable?

Just curious. I've kinda slowed on following recruiting, so I'm not sure exactly what we were expecting. When I saw that Howard was leaving the team, I honestly couldn't even remember who he was.

Four very highly rated members of last year's class.

I'll set Howard aside, because his departure was conduct related, but I would expect more of this kind of attrition, especially if we take "chances" on borderline qualifiers, in hopes of catching lightning in a bottle. Its a good gamble for a program like ours, trying to infuse the roster with extra talent. It just didn't pan out for Cooper, Williams, and Edouard--ad Edouard's story is still being written.

Recruiting is still a struggle for this program, there are no magicians that are going to solve it overnight. Might have been a class full of 3 stars, which was an improvement, but 3 stars with issues.

The staff still expects Edouard to enroll in January.
Exactly. Let's not write off a kid who is, as far as we know, still going to come to SU and seems very excited about playing for SU, just a semester later than we'd first anticipated having him.

Agree that SU needs to take some calculated risks, which appear to have paid off with Erv and Jonathan Thomas. Just have to make sure there aren't too many in one class and the coaches do their due diligence. Give me a group of late qualifiers who aren't afraid to work hard over someone who wants to float through, but make sure they are ready for the demands at SU.

Well, on a positive note--this is opening up quite a few extra scholarships for the class of 2015. I thought we were basically done in August [with only 1-3 more vacancies], but now it looks like we'll be able to add quite a few more.

Which is good news, IMO, as this is shaping up as our best class in a long time. That, and we also have some key areas of positional need that the coaching staff can bolster a bit more by taking advnatage of this unplanned attrition.

That statement is ridiculous. Every school in the country has probably had an issue with one or two recruits in a class. You're so pro Marrone that I think you actually want this staff to fail. You seem to be a lot more negative in SU since your boy Mr Congenialty left the program. Let's get this straight he wasn't Mr Wonderful.

Wouldn't it be really odd at this point if Edouard doesn't return? Since he left, everybody says he's coming back; Shafer, the kid himself, his HS coach. If he wasn't coming back, why not just say so when he left? Why would everybody keep stringing it along?

Cautiously optimistic.

Dude, at least when I posted stuff I didn't like about how Marrone handled some stuff I called it out with his name.

Why assume it's an attack, it's an observation. I even said that having a class full of 3 stars is better than not.

But it shows that one guy is not going to transform the roster. They are consciously taking more at risk kids to up the potential talent pool, which is fine, but means you are also going to lose kids, and probably more likely at the top than the bottom of your class.

There's no magic talent influx just on the horizon.

It was an obvious attack. I don't care but he is right, be honest.

Class of 3 stars is what we'll get if you paid attention to Cfb all over this happens everywhere no matter if NR or 5 star. But I'll take 3 star consistent for every class anyday

Uh, it's not.

An attack would be he's an overrated fraud who can't do the OC job, who's WR's haven't improved, and has to take big risky reaches to puff up recruiting rankings to hype his brand.

I don't believe any of that is true. What I believe is that he needs to do his job better, and that includes do a better job of recruiting, because his rep is ahead of the results to date. It's been incremental improvement, not transformative.

Which is why I hardly think it's homesickness...
