Unless you are an engineer orscientist ,most math is useless in every day life presuming you know your times table and basic arithmetic. I never required higher math in my career even once and I did more than OK.
a high comfort level with percentage, fractions, and basic statistics is pretty important. You can't understand what people write and say about the world without statistics (smart people get fooled all the time because they don't understand statistics - this is how politicians on both sides of the isle push their policy positions is with biased statistics). You also need some basic understanding of how money/population/whatever compound.

I teach math, so it's fairly important to me.
I was going to include teachers but thought too obvious

I can agree with that but I regard that asbasic math. I refer to advanced algebra and calculus. which still maintain is superfluous to a quality education. I regard writing and history as far more relevant for for making decisions in life and understanding the world events as they transpire. I also think that history is taught poorly in most school systems. In high school history classes I can't think of one that made it through the history books to present day events. Far too many individuals couldn't write a paper detailing why Japan and Germany elected war in the 20th century at very close time lines. What drove each country to that circumstance? What was going on in each country at that time is a lesson in avoiding repetition
