Cornell Postgame

Can't struggle against 4 cupcakes that we should have beaten by lots more. The Youngstown State was an embarrassment considering they got blown out by Ohio State the game before.
I don't disagree with any of that. Big question mark on whether Red can actually coach. We haven't got any better through 6 games. But you can't make snap judgments based on short term results. On the clock but not where you pull the plug this year. Unless it goes totally off the rails.

He can't defend without fouling

play him and live with it. He’s a freshman and brings a lot of good fundamental ball to the court. Dude battles and rebounds, boxes out, pick and rolls, good passer, good hands. I get what you’re saying but he’s not horrible, good bigs will cook him though (But I think he could hang with the Malik Browns of the world. We’ll see.)

i was wrong when I said Carlos could play 10-15 a game, he needs to play 0 and be the 5th guard off the bench
Yeah, it makes little sense to me why the G rotation shouldn’t be Starling-Moore, with Taylor first off the bench (especially for D) and a smattering of Cuffe if we need energy.

Six games in and I don’t see what Carlos gives us at all.

JJ can't go 3-17 in any more games this year. There is no way you allow someone to miss that many shots in a game.

Well, good to see Lucas doing nice things. That block was insane. And then Moore on the other side of it—i was begging him to shoot that.

All things considered, not the worst outcome for a team playing without its center or a point guard.

Cuffe should get more time.

McLeod is still the biggest mystery for me. If he's not injured, it's ridic that he doesn't get any time. But, hey, Cuffe today, maybe McLeod the next game.

Freeman—based on his high school games and the McD thing, i've always thought he was a guy who needed to play within a system designed to get him specific opportunities. I still kinda think that now, but it's also just 'up to him,' to have his motor going and to be more proactive to make things happen. That said, he does still need to be judicious. He still takes a few more shots that are too contested than i'd like.

Red may be the greatest humanitarian on the planet. But... Someone just isn't getting our guys prepared. Skills-wise or strategically. I wanted to believe, but now i am more firmly believing that we have a staff that only knows what was and i don't see a reason to trust that coaches who only knew zone can just magically transform into m2m gurus. The guys we brought in don't exactly have that pedigree, either. At least not on the highest level.

I'm already sick of the taunting. Moore and Lucas might deserve a Judahesque slap.

Moore, though, is pretty much just what i expected, hoped for, though i didn't know it would be this early. He is "a shot maker." Good to hear it reinforced that he's such a hard worker. He seems prepared to be on this stage (even though it's November against Cornell). I don't think he gets sheepish against Duke. I just hope his exuberance can be held in check so he's not always in heat chuck mode.

JJ had an off game. Same plays, different results. The shots looked bad. But, i hope he keeps playing the same way.

Defense... Some atrocities. Just unreal passive, brainfart stuff. Against a team without high level talent and which didn't do anything particularly clever or creative. That's scary.

If Donnie and Choppa can keep contributing and growing I'll be happy.

Lucas with not a huge showing on offense but he's maybe the best 2-way player on the team. Get Eddie healthy and sprinkle in some Naheem.
Well, by definition a two way player has to contribute on offense. Otherwise he’s a one way player, d only.

The freshman stole the night. We lose this game without them. Wow - that was not a pretty game.
Actually, I think it was exactly what we needed to see. The freshman willed their talent against lesser skilled players. That’s exactly what you want to see out of your top end recruits.

I think Red had to realize that saving Carlos’ confidence is not worth what you’re losing by playing him extended minutes.

JJ- Choppa-Bell (minuscule leash) -Donnie- Eddie

Taylor - Cuffe (maybe)
Davis
Naheem / Petar.

Regarding subs, I was annoyed that it took so long to get Moore back into the game during the 2nd half. I don’t understand why your best first half player sits so long to start the 2nd half in a close game.

There’s no rule that first half starters have to start the 2nd half when your team is struggling to find offense.

Yeah. Yet we know they make promises, etc. And while I could see them planting Carlos on the bench eventually, I think they’re fixated on Bell being a critical piece of this team.
Agree on Bell. They know the potential - they saw it last year. I’m just not sure you can get it out of him at this point. He’s either on shooting or he’s not. And if he’s not you can’t have his defense.

Watching Reds post game and not a single question about point guard play. How is that possible?
Edit: was asked and completely glossed over what he is doing and putting it on the rest of the team. Is Red his dad or something? Wow.

For sure. I know why they don’t want to bury him, but he’s such a liability beyond his 3 point shooting. Ideally he’s a Vinnie Johnson type, but that ship sailed with his they’ve positioned him the past couple seasons.

He hasn't given one thing is six games. Not even one.
