Cornell Postgame

If we run the whole offense through Donnie he’ll be doubled or tripled.
Then the rest of the team has to be able to score. Good teams will dare us to do it.

And the first half of yesterday shows no one can score.
Against Tenn or UNC or Pittsburgh … a 1-15 run will bury us.

We saw that last year. Why didn’t we make the Tournament? One reason was the blowouts.
Not the 20 (asterisk) wins.
Nobody said anything about the offense running through Freeman. I certainly didn't.

I think the Lampkin to Starling play we ran a lot against Texas Tech was an effective play. It has the benefit of potentially getting wide open threes for Bell, Moore or Freeman.

I think our best offensive lineup is Moore, Starling, Bell, Freeman and Lampkin.

Four shooters, including one who has been proven to be elite in the past. Three guys who can go to the basket and finish. Two guys who can post up, and pass out of the double team. This offensive lineup has the potential to be really good.

Defense will be a work in progress forever, but Freeman and Moore at least present some upside on the defensive front. Freeman's already gotten a lot better on defense, and has gone from "lost out there" to "could be better."

This also would be a decent rebounding team, as Freeman and Lampkin are our best rebounders, and Bell is showing improvement there, even if he's unlikely to ever be a good rebounder.

The reserves are what they are. They get minutes when they can help, or when they absolutely have to be out there.

We talked a lot about how deep this team was all summer long, but really we aren't that good, so we need to play the guys who are good.

No better time to start doing that then when we are facing a blowout at Tennessee. Putting guys out there who have consistently proven to be overmatched is a recipe for a big loss.

I really like this idea.
Not sure using a game vs UTK like a scrimmage will sit well, but it’s in Knoxville…
(I’ll be there)

Carlos seems to be running away from the ball at times and going to the corner where he is useless because he can’t shoot threes. Contrary to what Red said in his presser Carlos is not getting guys open looks. And on defense, his defensive field goal percentage against on three-pointers must be sky high. Guys are just shooting over him with ease.
Is now the time to mention the failed pass to Bunch at the end of the game?
Regardless of who phoned it in, they’re way out of sync. Coaching…

Here is the thing about JJ which drives me absolutely nuts. It is hideous when he drives to the left and throws it up with his right. The physics just don't work. The angle is wrong. That is why half the time the ball just spins out. It's stupid. At this level you have to be able to finish with your left. A la Devo
Everything he does is so mechanical.

Before the game I asked for a bigger margin win (20) to see progress from game 1-3, to game 4-5, then to game 6. I think we could have reached my initial target with some better rotation decisions -- so I will say it was another game with arguably positive progress,

Red has to be better though.
It was +20, over the last 35 minutes.

I hope we see more of Cuffe he immediately turned things around defensively.

Moore stepped up and covered for terrible performances by Starling and Bell. Donnie played hard on both ends and stepped up for Lampkin and Davis being so so.
Best I remember Cuffe playing.

Btw the coaches teach this now

That’s as of now. There’s a lot of season left and things can change.
You and your ilk can only hope. Unclear why you are rooting for our coach, and one of our own, to fail. Just to say you were right? Seems selfish and childish to me.

The coaches teach going to the left and shooting with the right? If that is true then they truly suck even more than I thought. Ludicrous.
