Could DeAndre Smith Be Next?

This is exactly why SU shouldn't be paying a monster salary to a women's lacrosse coach. The money should go to a higher priority and that's the football staff period. When there's money left over after paying the football staff a more than fair wage then you can spend money on nonrevenue sports

None of these moves nor potential moves is about money.

Would be rough to lose RB, WR and OL coaches all in the same year! Damn. Hopefully he stays with the staff he knows.

I'm seeing a pattern here. We'll find out a lot about McDonald's abilities as a coordinator next season.

Then I fail to see the benefit here, unless Smith thinks he can angle the Sconnie job into a coordinator job down the road quicker than he could here. I don't think he's from Wisconsin.

You're making some assumptions there that may not (and probably are not) correct.

Then what is it about?

can't speak for Perles, but I wouldn't be shocked if the Moore move was more mutual then anything. I think there was a lot more to it then Marrone seeing an opportunity to further hurt the program like a lot of people have made it out to be.

Moore took a job in the NFL!!!!! Pretty sure that's a promotion. No need to look any further into it.

Yeah, it's a recommendation we'll see. Wheatley recommended Mike Hart to take his spot so take that for what it's worth.

ya and Moore could have taken the job last year if he wanted.

Yep. Not sure how that changes the argument. He said he wasn't ready to take it at that point. This year it was offered again. How many times can you turn down a step up?

I don't get all the hand wringing over a couple position coaches taking different jobs. Coaches are nomads. There are always some that move on to different places for different reasons. There will always be more coaches to take their places, who just may do as good a job. It's a reality of the profession.

the previous poster said none of the coaching moves were made because of money. not buying how he really needed an extra year of seasoning. i just feel it was more of a mutual move then Marrone offering the job. Either way it's no big deal I was just adding a thought to Crust's post

What?

What?

Serioulsy What, Marrone is trying to hurt the program?? You guys need help. He left for 3x the money and a HC job in the NFL and probably had a few failed expectations as to how to continue to build the program back up, actually we are sure he did. In addition, the guy is a football coach not a recruiter but I don't think he is sitting back trying to hurt the program and sabotage what Shafer is trying to build on. This is just insane.

There is only one coach that Shafer doesn't mention when talking about the program and its history, and it isn't Marrone.

Exactly. I think lost in the conversations like these are that the coaches all know they are all hired guns, win or be gone. There is no loyalty so why should they be? Sure a solid track record of success helps but a few mediocre seasons and they will be calling for your head. Is what it is. Very rare that a coach isn't going to follow the money train, they almost have too

I think Marrone is Machiavellian and a pompous ass, no different than most head coaches (and very different from Shafer) but there is no way in which he is formulating strategies designed to debilitate Syracuse. He is looking out for himself and for the NFL program he now heads and providing opportunities for coaches with whom he knows he can work.

You guys realize I was being sarcastic right? Re-read my post

Moore indicated that last year he had to deal with some family issues, hence the timing wasn't right. The issues were addressed/resolved which made this year the right time.

Sounds like Wisconsin has made a decision about the RB Coach hire.

@thegnc @WiscoSportsNut the guy is a young impressive coach. They are excited. I really can't say more. Sorry
