No way could that be successful with the amount they would have to charge per subscription. The broadcast rights fees they pay are way too large, and HBO is a poor model for them to follow because it's apples to oranges.

My bill used to be $170 a month for cable/internet/phone bundle. Dropped phone and downgraded my cable to the lowest possible tier. Left internet at whatever they are calling the medium tier. Added Sling TV ($19+$5 for sports package). Our cable/internet bill is now $80.

Ah, I just dropped all cable. I went with an antenna and Internet (unfortunately still through time warner). I now subscribe to Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Now. I will probably go with Sling TV once it's available on Apple TV. I have accepted that I'll have to listen to most Syracuse and Yankee games on the radio for now, which is okay. I'm more of an aural person anyway. There will be lots of Matt Park and John Sterling for me this year.

Prepay SlingTV for 3 months and you get a free ROKU stick or a discount on a regular ROKU. It could be quite a wait to get SlingTV on AppleTV. If you don't like ROKU then pick up an Amazon Fire TV Stick for $40... it too supports SlingTV, Netflix, etc., etc.. I have both AppleTV & a Fire TV Stick. No SlingTV, yet. If only I could add NBCSN and the RSNs...

I have a Roku in the bedroom. I prefer Apple TV; particularly because I want access to Apple Music in my living room.
