Could the BE ever have been saved?

Was the BE doomed from the start?

I tend to think it was. We harp on the bad management, and the exclusion of Penn State, but I wonder if any of those moves would have saved this conference.

The BE has always been a bball conference, this is now a fball world. With differing agendas between the 2 sides of the conference, instability and potential break up was probably always on the table.

I'm trying to figure out at what point teams from smaller conferences look at the current Big East mess and think "wait why would I want to sign on for that?"
