Coverage Was Disappointing ?

Oh man, it gets worse, here is the clip 5OutFred was talking about.

This is pathetic and honestly worse than the media answer. Another time?!?!? When? We aren't going to hear from him for months, maybe longer. This was the last press conference of the year! It is clear that he doesn't have an answer or doesn't respect the fans enough to say anything. I dragged myself to 2 games this year (both losses) which was my lowest amount maybe ever. I won't be going to a game next year unless massive changes are made

This reminds me so much of the way JW handled Babers exit. If SU doesn’t get to the NCAA tournament Autry is done. Honestly as much as I don’t think Autry can get the job done you have to give him the third year. You don’t fire an alumni after two seasons. Next year is the ultimate sink or swim year for Red. After today I am not going to bother criticizing him. His fate will be determined by his production and I am good with that.
Yeah, I mean Kenny Payne was fired after 2 seasons at Louisville and he’s an alum.

Now look at that program. I bet they regret that decision.

In fairness to Syracuse, Red has won more ACC games in the last 45 days than Louisville had in Kenny's two years.

What an out-of-pocket comment from Red last night. I saw it brushed over a little bit in the post-game, but this is seriously tone-deaf regarding what is going on. You just delivered the worst season in 6 decades of this program and I thought the media was soft on you. He wasn't really held accountable for anything, not only by the media but by the administration at Syracuse, the only people holding him accountable are the fans, by not showing up. With comments like these, is he trying to get JW to change his mind? He went to a communication school, did he skip those classes? Does he think comments like this are going to do anything positive for anyone? So so out of touch and just further shows he isn't cut out for this level of coaching on or off the court.

"As an alum you're disappointed in yourself that you can't get your team to play well... But the way the team was covered was a little disappointing."

The media should be happy that anyone thinks they're relevant

I read no coverage of this team. I just watched and scratched my head here

This is a nothing burger under different circumstances. Say we had a decent season, going to the Dance, you can overlook certain things.

But when the team is in a death spiral you are under the microscope. He should know that. He should expect any and all scrutiny. It comes with the job.

Wildhack wants him to turn it around so bad so he doesn’t look dumb for hiring him. So he will probably overlook all this until he is forced to fire him after next season.

And what value does that add? We sucked a little less than those Louisville teams? Woohoo!

State of the program today is a dumpster fire. Red was given a softball question to try to give fans something to look forward to going forward and punted. Also, cries about the “coverage” of the team. He’s not the guy that is going to turn this around; this press conference just added to the laundry list of reasons, but we are stuck with him.

If he doesn't want the pressure, he should coach a mid-major. Like he always should have, first.
If he can get offered a mid major job, PLEASE take it. Got a solid Q3 and Q4 record here so far (looking for something). I think the school would even waive the buy out for the new school. Autry can work on repairing his coaching image and potentially have a longer career trajectory. Yeah a pay cut, but better long term job stability and Syracuse can start repairing its image as well! That press conference gave off some bad vibes like Syracuse is stuck and Autry is also stuck and hoping another opportunity comes his way, but until then will continue to deposit the university checks.

Its like he is trying to get fired after getting the vote of confidence

Didn’t like how the team was covered? It’s the worst season in what? 50+ years? That’ll do it coach. If you can’t take criticism after a 14-19 season with literally zero quality wins then this certainly isn’t the job for him. A mid major coach at best trying to revive a once powerhouse basketball program is what we’re being forced to sit through.

For Autry to go up there and carry himself like that, on the verge of tears are you kidding me? Could you ever see JB crying or on the verge of tears in a press conference after a loss??? Think about that. Adrian is in over his head as. Power 4 D1 head coach. SMU shut down Lampkin and Red had no plan in place to address that. We over-pass on offense, opting for acrobatic, high difficulty two's when we need threes. It's mind blowing

He's not cut out for this and for him to refuse to answer that last question and not send a message to the fan base to try and reassure us that everything is under control and they have a plan is pathetic and speaks volumes. He's a guard position coach not a D1 head coach. There is another year of this on the horizon and it sucks knowing this. Wildhack needs to go.

Autry's reaction to this final game to the season is so different from what we just heard from Gerry McNamara.
Both ended the season with the same wins 14, we had one more loss.
SU had 20 wins last year - so we are down 6.
Siena had 4 wins last year - so they are plus 10.
Syracuse collapsed in their last game - lost by 20.
Siena lost on a last second shot with .5 seconds left.

But here is the thing.
Red took no responsibility for the season, gave no reassurance to the fan base that things would improve, blamed the press for bad coverage and basically gave no real hope that next year would be better.
Gave no plan on what he wants to improve. I really don't think he even knows.
He came off like a broken hearted baby.

Gerry suffered on the surface a more devastating heartbreaking loss.
Yet he already was reassuring the fan base. Saying it was his responsibility to work on improving the team and emphasizing his need to bring in more players who could allow them to play more physical. Emphasizing that they have to be able to play at the rim better to be a more competitive team. Saying it was all on him to improve the team while saying how proud he was of his teams grit and growth.

Frankly Gerry did no more than any competent coach would do to address the fans at the end of the season. This isnt a comment about how great Gerry is - as I said the SS McNamara at least for Syracuse has sailed for the foreseeable future.

It is about how badly Red let us down this year, is still letting us down and whether he has any definite plan to improve the team other than use NIL to bring in better transfers.

I am a tax accountant so this is a hellish time of year for me.
And I will admit I depended for years on the high and joy SU basketball gave me this time of year.
Now it brought me a great big zero this year and I admit that I am angry.
Angry that the big shots up on the hill don't acknowledge that next year is destined to be more of the same.
And hearing what Red said, and didnt say, shows that he doesnt give a damn about the fans at all.

Wow, that is embarrassing. A basic question, perhaps even a softball, when all he has to say is we're going to work our tails off and fight to improve this program in the coming weeks is all he needed to say. A nothing answer really, but at least shows some fight and some understanding.

'No comment'-ing is so bad.
My words not his: To our fans this was an extremely difficult year and fell way short of Syracuse expectations. You have my and my staff commitment that we will do everything in our power to turn this around and bring us back to our Syracuse ways. How hard would that have been able to say!

Going into next year with a lame duck coach, obviously not fit for the job, that also is making these statements/comments is just horrendous by Wildhack.

With the push to get donations ongoing and forever a need, you can't have this crap.

With the portal opening up and being the only way we can get better, you can't have this crap.

With fans, season ticket holders, locals, businesses, etc all turning away, all having no faith or expectations any longer, you can't have this crap.

Come on, this is amateur hour that's only getting worse and worse (somehow).
Your point about donations really hits home to me. He needs fans for NIL and he says this???? We’re not only expected to go to games but pay the players and he says this?
