Coverage Was Disappointing ?

OK. That must be the most high-functioning Fortune 500 of all time.
Ya. Lots of Fortune 500 management sticks around after their bonehead decisions result in 20 to 30 percent loss in revenue.

What Fortune 500 company did you work for, Blockbuster?

Do you know this, or is it your suspicion?

My belief is that JW wanted to hire Autry. Maybe not because he was the best candidate. But because he was good enough and he was the path of least chaos.

As a serious question - if you think JW wanted to hire Red, why would you have any confidence in his ability to lead a search next time?

My answer is that JW “wanted” to hire Red because the politics within Syracuse made Red the path of least resistance, JW didn’t have (and won’t ever have) enough political capital to overcome the resistance to any other candidate - and so he accepted what he knew was a bad option because it was his only one.

On one hand that irritates me and makes me think JW should be fired…but in reality he has the skill set that the only people who have been successful ADs at Syracuse in the last 40 years have - so while it’s not ideal, he’s probably the best option in what increasingly appears to be a dysfunctional organization.

Hopefully the fans don't blame Kiyan when Red is awful next year. Also, I don't think Kiyan will be as good as some expect. On top of that we most likely have a coaching change after next year. And Kiyan may not develop under the staff as much as he and his family want. Really would not like this to go sour, but there's a lot of reasons this could not be a sunshine and rainbow experience for the Anthony family.

My fear is that if things next year start to go sideways early, Kiyan starts catching strays…and the end result is he leaves at the end of the year with a bitter taste in his mouth and the university relationship with Melo is permanently damaged.

I think there’s far more risks in bringing Red back than the decision makers realize…hopefully none of the worst risks end up being realized.

You know lots of others of us here have worked for successful Fortune 500 companies, right?

Do you sincerely believe what you’re posting, or did you get backed into a corner where you felt you had no option but post a really bad take?

I believe the same thing. Red was the compromise that got JB out. In that sense, JW “wanted” him.

That's why I wish Kiyan would have gone somewhere else or Red had been removed and brought in a new coach.
If things start going south early Kiyan will get the brunt of complaints even though not deserved.

What an out-of-pocket comment from Red last night. I saw it brushed over a little bit in the post-game, but this is seriously tone-deaf regarding what is going on. You just delivered the worst season in 6 decades of this program and I thought the media was soft on you. He wasn't really held accountable for anything, not only by the media but by the administration at Syracuse, the only people holding him accountable are the fans, by not showing up. With comments like these, is he trying to get JW to change his mind? He went to a communication school, did he skip those classes? Does he think comments like this are going to do anything positive for anyone? So so out of touch and just further shows he isn't cut out for this level of coaching on or off the court.

"As an alum you're disappointed in yourself that you can't get your team to play well... But the way the team was covered was a little disappointing."

This is really too bad.

While this year was awful, this was an opportunity for Red to state that he was disappointed in the year, proud of the guys for not quitting, but to look forward towards next year and build on what good did occur.

I get there was more said, but it’s just such an easy thing to avoid.

Got to do better with these situations. He knew this media occurrence was coming.

I feel very confident that no blame will be cast towards Kiyan Anthony.

Red knows his back is against the wall and he needs to find some way to assemble a competitive roster within the next 60 days to save his job next year.

The fact that he can’t even articulate what went wrong and his plan to correct (which ultimately has to be implemented immediately) shows he’s not going to be successful. He doesn’t have the vision. Doesn’t have the leadership. He’s flailing.

Guys, this could get very ugly. I really don’t see him pulling a series of rabbits out of his hat in the next two months. Seems he needs a miracle and that miracle is unlikely.

So this time next year it’s all but assured we’ll be discussing our ongoing search for a new coach or the next coach that was hired.
Red is an excellent assistant coach

As I've posted previously, I believe JB was retired regardless of who his successor would be. There was no need for there to be a compromise with a successor in mind. The Chancellor wanted JB gone. Once that was done they decided on what appeared to "them" to be their easiest solution. If there had been a discussion with JB about a compromise for JB to retire he likely would have made a deal for GMac to be his successor. But there was no discussion needed with him. He was told he was done. And, inspite of anything else he has said since to appear to back Autry, maybe he knew all along that Gerry would be a better choice for the future of the program.

I don't even know what he means. Is he talking about the media or his team's defense?

You really think if the season is off to a rough start and Kiyan has a bad game in a loss - that fans will take a calm, measured approach and not start ripping him?

You have much greater faith in our fan base - and in human nature generally - than any of my experience on this planet indicates is warranted.

I’m sure there are a lot of ignorant fans who think the kid is his Dad’s equal.

But I was talking much more broadly. If next season goes to hell quickly then I imagine 99.5% of the heat will be squarely on Red.

And maybe Derrick Coleman will sh! on Kiyan on social media. There’s always that chance I suppose.

Nah.

Kiyan is wearing #7 next season.

Hope the Aussie doesn't pick #44.

I think we all need to take a step back and ponder...

Our north Jersey dumpster friends with (unbelievabley) 2 freshman NBA lottery picks went 8-12 in conference and 15-17 overall, and were uncermoniously smited with a 1st round exit from the B1G tournament.

I would not be happy with Gerry. I think we need someone with more bonafides at a high level. But if he is the choice then we have to support him. I think we'd be better off now if he was hired instead.
Until GMAC puts together a 25-win season and wins the MAACT, I’d prefer to not hear his name in the head coach conversation.
If he does that, I’d drop hints to his agent that if he repeats that feat the job is his for the taking.
