Credit Where it's due

If AJ ends up starting when Hunt is back, will Bud have another piece on how Shafer has no loyalty to his players similar to the lack of loyalty theme of his bit when McDonald was demoted?

Very well could. Right or wrong that's their prerogative.

I've disagreed with a lot of his stuff, almost all of it lately as a matter of fact. That being said, I have an appreciation for Journalism and I thought this piece was decent.

We don't necessarily have to carry all of our disagreements around all the time though.

I don't hate every Bud article but I think lately he has taken some cheap shots at Shafer. Not sure why. Maybe he has something personal against Shafer and it is coming out in his forum. It could be his "prerogative" to do that but mine to call him out on it.

Bud overvalued loyalty. Shafer's first loyalty is to his employer and its fans to win games. You make the tough choices you have to make out of the loyalty to winning. End. Of. Story.
I don't think Bud knows what loyalty is. It's not about sticking with a guy at a certain position no matter what. That benefits no one.

I think this is where Hunt's punch/ejection hurts him. Might have lost some goodwill with the staff on that one.

In this business, Loyalty is only a tie breaker and everyone knows that.

Regardless of what happens this season, the real competition will begin in the Spring and Alin may be here by then. From all accounts he is an AJ with a cannon.

I think this is a high class problem.

There is loyalty and then there is also publicly throwing someone under the bus. I don't disagree with Shafer's decision to make Lester the OC, but the manner in which it was done has the potential to be damaging to McDonald's career.

Tough decision/decision that had to be made, whatever you want to call it, it is fair for Bud to question the manner in which it was conveyed to the public.

Thats one of my concerns. Is Alin sitting in Florida watching AJ play well thinking to himself "Hmm, maybe I should look elsewhere" or "Nice, I have some competition for when I get there in January".

Who leaked the info first?I doubt Shafer wanted it to go down like it did.

I'd like to think it's the latter, since Alin originally committed knowing that Long committed previously.

Bud questioned the decision and called the decision to demote McDonald disloyalty on Shafer's part. I don't think Shafer publicly threw anyone under the bus and if you can quote Shafer saying negative things about McDonald I'd like to see them. Shafer can like McDonald as a person. He can like his creativity and even his plans for the game. He can love his offensive mind. With all that said, he can, at the same time, hate the execution in games and based on that, demote McDonald without any hint of not being "loyal".

I agree with you, but as the head coach he's going to be open for criticism. Personally I appreciate the transparency (even if his hand was forced), but I think it was fair for Bud to "take shots" in that instance.

Now if McDonald was the leak, then Shafer is being very loyal by not firing him immediately.

Bud quoted Gerg in this article. That alone makes it a POS in my eyes.

If we are under the assumption that last year, Lester joined McD in the booth to help/call plays, then the same could have occurred this year without a public demotion. As I said, it's very likely Shafer was forced to do it the way he did because of the leak, but at the same time Bud is fairly entitled to say Shafer wasn't being loyal.

I doubt Edouard is afraid of competition. Also, if you are afraid of competition at this level, guess what you are going to get at the next level.

Still, I'm kind of hoping that while AJ does well, that he doesn't do so well that there is an "incumbent" come spring practice with others having little chance at the job. Because I think Edouard, (assuming he shows up), might be the biggest talent. I'd like him to be part of an open competition, rather than being told he'd have to wait his turn.

They are public figures. There was nothing wrong with the demotion and no reason to keep it hush hush and pretend it didn't really happen. I do not think Bud was fair to say Shafer was disloyal based on what happened. I don't agree at all that McDonald was "thrown under the bus" given Shafer said nothing negative about McDonald though we all know about McDonald's unprofessional and frankly disloyal response on Twitter. I really think Bud has a personal axe to grind with Shafer and possibly a few others. If so, it's unfortunate he uses his position to take revenge.

assuming Edouard does, in fact, come (which I do believe), there will be 2 years of separation assuming that Edouard takes a redshirt year. So either Edouard wins the competition straight up, or he has his two years of being the man (assuming he'd be able to hold onto the job and some future recruit doesn't beat him out.) I'd be shocked, and frankly incredibly disappointed, if he was scared off by Long

Understood, and you have a right to do that. Im of the opinion Bud has gone overboard in trying to stir the pot as well. I don't like 90% of what he writes.

My point was this was a thread in which I was trying to give him credit, not one to lob hand grenades, again.

And not sure why you have to air quote prerogative.

Only 90%?

Honest opinion is a harsh one, that's why I was trying to swallow my pride and be a good guy this morning ;).

I think he goes out of his way to try and be perceived as a curmudgeon, I think he wants to be viewed as such.

Furthermore, can't ignore the multiple stories I've heard about his DB-ness.

Or, man I can eat these guys up!

I get you liked it. You created the thread saying that ...I just responded and I am not of the same opinion about it. You were giving him credit. I am not. Why? See my first response above.

I used quotes around "prerogative" because I was quoting you.
