So of our 7 commits I think our defense/offense split is 6/1.

Things balance out at some point, but do we have any sense for when we'll get some commitments from guys that play offense?

I’m okay getting good defense players at this point. We need OL but WR and QB we can go into the portal if necessary.

For someone who is suppose to be offensive genius/guru, dino really needs to show he can recruit that side of the ball. Tony White is lapping him right now

You continually seem to think that year-over-year short-term solutions is a way of finding long term success. It is not.
With the transfer portal there are plenty of players with four years of eligibility and are also immediately eligible. These are not short term solutions but can bring in quality players. It is not the old days of a grad transfer. Why settle on a high school qb or wr when there will plenty in the portal with at least three if not four years of eligibility. Very short sighted to only focus on high school players in the current landscape.

I would look at overall team balance. This could just be a more targeted year on offense side of recruiting. We are 3 deep at RB and likely no opening there. Seems like we have a ton of WR and oline. I do think that the one time transfer does significantly change the team recruiting strategies. With players not having to sit you can pull young players out of the portal.

Offensive recruiting has been a disappointment although they have picked up a few good transfer recruits

I have to think portal will be a way to add offense. One benefit of taking guys from the portal is they can’t transfer a second time without sitting out a season.

Not everyone in the portal is a P5, let alone D1, level player. And there are reasons some of these players are in the portal that don't make them an attractive prospect.

Unlike Tony White, I don't Dino believe had much of a recruiting reputation prior to SU. You can see it some in his Bowling Green classes. It's surprising based on how charismatic he appears on camera.

More than recruiting, he needs to show he can develop kids on the offensive side of the ball. Our WR’s as a group have been below average since the group he inherited left. What happened to Ishmael/Phillips getting 100 catches and 1,000 yards? Harris has flashed but is not consistent enough, and isn’t utilized properly IMO (I think he should be the slot guy to get him the ball in space to show off his RAC ability). Bottom line is our OL & WR groups, not to mention our QB, need to improve greatly.

In fairness, with our new staff I thought we pulled in 5 solid linemen, 3 very good receivers (one stud), a very good TE or two, a stud RB that is PA player of the year, and the best QB recruit (ranking) since Tommy (and Mcnabb before him).

Not to mention the SEC QB transfer that gives immediate depth/starting competition and an SEC lineman that will be one of the best of the line for this year.

I thought this year may just be a function of last year being offense heavy, plus we lost a LOT of bodies on D and are about to lose a bunch more.

That said I think we are still due another 5 full linemen and another top end WR (plus the RB we already have committed). I doubt we get a decent QB this cycle with what we have signed the last 3

In fairness guys like Custis, Jackson, and Etta-tawa had good seasons when they were here, but I agree I thought by this point we would have multiple guys starting that could go for a 1,000 yards.

I feel that samuels is going to be a major upgrade for the wr. Lustig was a great sp coordinator but not sure he really improved the wr. Also I’m not sure how much ferri improved wr.
Samuels has been a wr coach for a number of years and developed some good wr. He also played the position.
The one thing that remains to be seen is if he can recruit wr at su. If the wr play really well this year we should be able to bring in some higher rated wr recruits.

Not easy getting two guys with 1000 receiving yards. Keep in mind Trishton had over 1000 yards and Taj had 550 in 2019. The offensive line injuries and other struggles hurt the passing game in 2020.

Trishton had over 1000 too

True - forgot about him. In general it just feels like that position has underwhelmed since the first group that Dino inherited left.

People think transfers are automatically better. They forget there's a reason why they are in the portal. Transfers have to learn new systems and develop just like incoming freshmans do. Plus its hard to evaluate transfers that have no sigificant game film. There are going to be misses with them too.

Yup, done a great job with transfers but his Wr recruits havent quite tore it up yet. I agree.
