Crowd Saturday

They won (or dare I say or tied) every game that year including crushing PSU. I agree, the fair weathers didn't really care too much about SOS...but SU had a good and exciting team that year. And even in '87, there was a lag in attendance. '87 paid attendance dividends over the next 2-3 years. It takes a while for the fair weather fans to become affiliated because they want to wait until they know it is "safe".

Yep agree. There are X amount of fans that show up every day for a 6-6 team and X+ for better. Just think of this for those who want a tough schedule. SU is playing 3 teams that won BCS games last year and 2 teams in the top 5. All basically at home. The only way to get those X+ people is to schedule easier games OOC. Build momentum for that current year and the next ones as we see with the numbers you put up.

Well, it's not the only way. The other way is to win the OOC games even if that part of the schedule is strong.

Ha, true but that would be a sunshine lollipop world. SU history has shown us that it can't be done.

Just more and more excuses. We make fun of Rutgers for rushing the field after beating a weak Michigan team, yet we can't even sell out (or even come close) for the #1 team in the country, and the DEFENDING NATIONAL CHAMPION.

And don't give me the "the product on the field stinks" excuse. Big changes were just made. If anything, this is when the team needs the fanbase the most.

Pathetic.
Defending national champs with a Heisman Trophy QB.

Beyond pathetic.
Not many people want to pay money and spend time watching an inevitable blowout.

Why blame them?

that really tells us a lot.

winning may not be the cure, cnyers just dont like football.

when the royals were pathetically getting 10k for a saturday night game in july for years, theyd get 50k on a tueday in mid-may when the Yankees rolled in.

granted winston is not a tebow (nobody will ever be) but still...
partially true. I do believe that the view in CNY and the entire northeast is that football isn't a religion and most like NFL over college. I do believe though that the reason that people will stay away from tomorrow is that the chance of an upset is zero to none. Not with our performance the last three games, not with the key injuries. This past week we've heard a lot about '84 & Nebraska. I would like to know if there were as many starters out then as there are tomorrow.

Anything less than 45,000 is an embarrassment.

We used to get crowds like this for UConn and Rutgers.

Matches the embarrassing play on the field.

I'm always beside myself that we don't have bigger crowds, but the way this year has gone, I kind've understand.

It's no fun at all knowing your team is going to get absolutely pounded and then watching it happen. Last year for Clemson, our team had played some good football at times and we at least thought we had a chance to hang around with them and fans were fired up before the game and even into the 3rd quarter when we showed some life.

I can find zero reason for optimism for this FSU game, based on what has happened in the first 5 games.

Another reason to schedule cupcakes early on. take out MD and ND and replace them with UMass and Florida International. We would be 4-1, and while that would be a BS 4-1, the crowd this weekend would be huge and we would still have a pretty decent shot at a bowl game. Instead we have to pretend we don't suck and try to man up by playing multiple games against Power 5 teams every year. Maryland isn't exactly a juggernaut, but they aren't UMass or FIU either. Look at our record against Power 5 OOC teams since Marrone took over (GROB doesn't count). it's pathetically poor and we need to go the Rutgers/Duke route until we are decent again. With that rant over, I say 44,000 announced this weekend.

It's amazing that we haven't figured this out yet. We should've been doing this for the last decade.

It's not 1992 anymore.
