Cuffe changed the game….

He needs starters minutes. I’d prefer for Choppa to start. Just think you might lose Choppa mentally if you replace him.

And as we saw today, you can actually play both of them together.
Yeah, I get that, Jake, but at the same time I'm really tired of that excuse. You just can't have starters who are contributing little, especially when a player on the bench can do more. It finally happened to Bell, and it was way over due. It also happened to Carlos. No one should be handled with kid gloves. You want to start? Great, play better.

Yeah, especially now with everyone transferring every week. Put up or shut up

SAME!! I've said from this team for next year only players I'd like back were Cuffe , Freeman and Peter.. I took some flack for saying cuffe.. like I said before Bill Self liked the kid enough to give him a scholarship .
So, you don't want JJ back?!

Cuffe's defense and perfect free throws made an enormous difference in getting a W.
He brought up the entire team's energy as well, which was awesome to see.

First time in a long time when I felt we were really playing Cuse level defense.
He is our best defender hands down. The job he did shutting down one of the best gaurds in the country was beautiful to watch. He's a really good defender.

Thank you to all with the positive Cuffe posts! I feel alot less delusional than before!
Progress!
For me and and as I thought perfectly clear Cuffe would be a staple in any improvement this team will have.
I was confronted in here with adamant disagreement when I was saying Cuffe deserved more minutes.
Many said he was no good...how did they know? I didnt really know but I witnessed a 3.5 hour practice where Cuffe dominated! He never played this year how would we know?...only last year...have they never seen a player improve?

I was offended and actually just upset. HOPEFULLY Cuffe can keep it up!

Yeah, some here have really been hard on the kid. Not sure why.

If you read his high school write up, he was known as an incredibly strong and athletic defender, He was also a great slasher with a great ability to finish at the rim.
Better in a transition game, than in the half court.
He actually reminds me a lot of Stevie Thompson.
Except Stevie never went 10-10 from the foul line and few could stop Stevie anywhere close to the basket.

He has grown on me as a glue guy. His brick laying killed me last year but I think he’s won me over with everything else he brings. I hope he can be part of the turnaround next year.

He's not really a jump shooter. He was being misused. He's a guy who is a jet with the ball in his hands, and can finish at the rim because of his hops. We should run the break the entire time he is in there. That's how I would use him.

And I would have him hassle the opposing PG at the top of a 3/4 court press. Let him run and attack the rim. He would excel in that role.

Seemed to me he played 3 guards most of the time last year. I was surprised it took him so long to go to it this year.

That's where it would have been great if he could have just plugged in Westry and gotten what we did from Copeland.

Choppa played better D yesterday too. I’d love to see them both playing more. Two slashers and they can shoot.
He always puts in effort. He just needs to not fall for every fake.

He's fearless, which I love.

Agree they were very good together. They both subbed in together in the first half when the score was 22-38 and were subbed out in the first half together when the score was 31-42. In the second half both entered with 12:11 left in the game and the score was 46-52 till the end and the score 77-69. Burton and Shrewsberry, ND’s guards are excellent 3 point shooters also able to drive, having defenders in their grill creating pressure was necessary. Cuffe and Carlos were up to the task and made ND’s offense work hard. Last game Shrewsberry scorched us for 25 points in their win without Burton. Tough for any single guard defensively playing up on a player when their guard teammate doesn’t pressure their opponent and is an easy outlet from pressure. Both Cuffe and Carlos played 21 minutes in the game together. Different teams may present different defensive challenges so other positional players for SU have to step up their defense and challenge. Taylor has shown he’s capable but every player who lays back passively on defense makes it much more difficult for their teammates who are trying to play aggressively on defense.

Daily Orange article on Cuffe. The guy is a hard worker. He's worked hard coming back from injury. A great role model for others.

Yup, Cuffe might not have the elite athleticism he once had, but ...
“You never know if it’s going to be your time or not, but the things that you can control (are) your energy and how hard you’re gonna work … If it’s against me and you to get to a loose ball, I’m gonna get to it first,” Cuffe said.
... that's the kind of guy I want on my team.

The phrase “change the game” threw me for a loop because my initial interpretation involved the term on a macro level. the idea of Cuffe changing the sport of basketball is quite hilarious to me .
