honestly Culpeppers best play might have been scrambling out of the pocket to the right, but looking downfield and then stopping to scan the entire field again before throwing the ball out of bounds. That awareness is better than anything I see from DeVito.

even postgame these analysts are saying TD needs to throw the ball away instead of just running out of bounds. (This is his 4th year)

What other P5 program "anoints" a starting qb a year ahead, then recruits NO ONE capable of challenging him for the starting job?
@boxcanyon
we had Amie, he didnt work out, Summers was a maryland QB commit, he is still in the air

He just has weird issues when it comes to the sidelines. Last year it was throwing interceptions when trying to throw the ball away. Now it's running out of bounds on 3rd down plays or throwing it out of bounds too early. Never seen anything like it. He does bring some good things to the table but they never involve the sidelines.

In the game thread, AZOrange (who has some connections to the current team) said that the best QB on the team decided to transfer.

They've tried recruiting. They can't land anyone. They should have brought in a grad transfer who could be plugged in and wasn't expecting to compete for the NFL Draft.

I would sign up for a Culpepper start right now... at least kick the tires, BC it ain’t workin.

This is where recruiting comes into play.

Recruit 1A -- You're my guy. You're going to come in and start right after the guy who is starting leaves. SIGNED BY SYRACUSE

Recruit 2A, the following year -- Well, you know, we have a guy now who is probably going to start for awhile. SIGNED ELSEWHERE

Recruit 3A, two years later -- Well, you know, we have a guy now who is probably going to start for awhile. SIGNED ELSEWHERE

Can't upset Recruit 1A, even if he isn't as advertised. Recruit 2A never wants to come, so you get Recruit 2D or 2E who isn't close to being good enough. Recruit 3A also does not want to come to sit for 3 years. So you get Recruit 3D or 3E who is also not good enough.

Now you have Recruit 1A and then as his backup, you have a guy who was recruiting by the prior coaching staff and was shifted to TE.

This is an indictment on Babers recruiting at the QB position as much as it is anything else.

When you start saying this I get depressed.
I’m sorry... I should probably be more patient this season with all of the variables.

TD’s arm talent is undeniable, and when he’s in rhythm he can hit, it just has not happened consistently enough.

But in Rex’s series, coming in cold, he spread the ball around the field and showed better awareness. Even if he’s not as accurate, there’s at least chances.

As a coach I’d at least be willing to explore that. I mean, what do we have to lose?

He did both last year. Sideline INTs were a thing early on...then the rest of the year it was run out of bounds.

He needs help. Doesn’t have the instincts, size, ability to make good things happen outside of the pocket.

Speaking of last year...how about when he intentionally threw the ball out of bounds on 4th down! He either didn't understand "down and distance" or he was protecting his stats. Both are bad looks.

Its hard to articulate but Tommy just doesn't look the part. Other than those two relief appearances he has never looked like he is comfortable and or in charge. The good ones have a presence about them. The great ones ooze confidence. Eric was a great one. He made everyone else on the entire team better. Not just the O but the whole team. Tommy comes across as an offensive player. Not the leader, not the guy who is going to make it happen, rather a position player. Just another guy on O. Not the " Straw that stirs the drink" .
In business, the military, sports, life we all know who the real leaders are. They just have IT.
Unfortunately so far Tommy doesn't.

They did recruit one. He then got kicked out and transferred to a JC.

Those guys aren't "Grad Transfers"

They're "5th year seniors" who don't transfer.

I believe the phrase used was "That can't happen." But it does and will.
