After 64 years, the Syracuse men's cross country team returned to the top of the podium as the 2015 National Champions!

The Orange, which hadn't reached the podium at the NCAA Championship since 1957, entered the race No. 2 in the rankings, took down unanimous No. 1 Colorado by placing three runners in the top-10.

Way to go. I'm pleased that one Orange team won.

They just mentioned on the bball broadcast that SU is the first team east of the Mississippi to win the NC since the early 1970s. Impressive.

But I'll still take a winning football season over that.

Yup - 1972

And they did it with one scoring senior.

Have to be thinking about a repeat next year.

Losing a top 10 guy is a big hit, but yes they will be in the hunt for sure. Knight could be individual champ next year

Congrats, but I'd honestly exchange a X country and field hockey N.C. for 6 measly football wins.

Why pit the football team wins against other SU teams? This cross-country win is incredible actually. If you look at where they were before Fox, it's absolutely incredible and shows how a coach can build a program. To equate the accomplishment to a 6-win football season is crap.

Agreed. This is not an either/or situation. It's a great accomplishment for the team and SU. People should be happy that SU is having success in any sort, for Pete's sake. It's great for the athletic profile of the school.

Stop it.

They are obviously mutually exclusive. You name me one cross country champion that plays football well. I'll sit and wait. (can any of them play 2 sports?).

I'd trade the two most recent Giants Super Bowls for one 8 win SU football season.

Wheeee, this is fun!

I'm guessing I'm not the only one who would take that trade off. Therefore it's my opinion, and probably others as well, therefore, by definition it's not crap...it's an opinion that you don't agree with.
You do know that agreeing with an opinion is not mandatory correct?

Well there is no world where that trade off is possible, so what is the point? Is having a national champion cross country team negatively impacting football?

So you would throw away all the hard work that went into building both programs for one mediocre football season?

Not sure what's sadder, the selfishness of throwing away other people's accomplishments for barely mediocre football...or the fact that we are so hopelessly bad that 6-6 football is something we're desperate for.

Look...here is the bottom line. Congrats to the x country team (as I said before), however, for Me personally, I don't honestly care all that much about x country. Therefore, I personally, would rather see 6 wins in football, than a championship from a team I don't follow. It's just my opinion. Sheeh. Everyone is so freekin' p.c.
And to say it's sad that I "threw away someones accomplishment" is just plain stupid. Last I checked, Syracuse, as of right now, is still a N.C. in X-Country, despite my ghastly opinion.
Then again, who am I to have an opinion? I mean, I only have 396 posts, and haven't been elevated to the super awesome status of "All American" on an internet message board yet.

Don't get all defensive. But you have to accept that others might have a (dramtically, sometimes) adverse reaction to opinions.

You got the dramatic part correct. I do accept it, but I will also defend my opinion, and my right to have one.

No one said you couldn't state your opinion. Personally, 'trading' one team's championship for another (or in this case, a .500 season) wouldn't even cross my mind. But that's just me. One doesn't directly affect the other.

It was obviously a hypothetical. I'm not David Copperfield after all.;)

No offense, but - winning TWO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN ONE WEEKEND is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than being a mediocre football team.

(and sadly, we look to have a ways to go to get back to being simply mediocre)

Winning a NC in ANY SPORT, period, is an incrediblly huge accomplishment.
We just won 2, in 2 consecutive days!!

Now, IF you said something like, "I'd trade those 2 NC's for one ACC Football championship", then maybe you'd have more folks (than the roughly zero currently) agreeing with you.

Thanks for turning a feel good thread into yet another sh!tstorm about the football program. And sorry you feel inadequate about your post count, but you have time to work on that.
