Cuse Sign at Yankee Stadium

It's not jealousy, it's just kind of funny the University of Maryland is closer to Yankee Stadium than Syracuse but you guys keep pushing this "New York's College Team" down everyone's throats.

It's definitely good publicity to have Syracuse in Yankee Stadium, but you could have had just a billboard with Syracuse University on it and omitted New York's College Team.

It just seems a little bit ridiculous, that a private school, 4.5 hours away from New York, out of the blue just starts an ad campaign boldly claims to be New York's College Team.

By comparison, you don't see the Buffalo Bills parading around as New York's NFL Team, because they are upstate and the Giants and the Jets play in Jersey.

We started the New York's College Team marketing in 2005 with a Times Square billboard. Since then we've marketed in NYC with additional billboards and on top of taxis and now the Yankee Stadium advertising. It isn't "out of the blue."

I do wish them good luck in their big east (patriot league) future. And suddenly syracuse is no where near New york except when we play at MSG in hoop. It's a home game for syracuse when that happens. Make up your minds guys.

And despite UConn's proximity to NYC, we absolutely owned MSG in the BET this year. It was obvious as early as 10am when all the bars on 33rd st were packed with Syracuse fans and not a uconn fan in sight.

They'll have the pick of the bars Spring '14...when tens of SMU, UCF, Houston and hundreds (2) of Temple fans descend upon NYC. Memphis should travel their ticket allotment though.

Relay the following message to your fellow uconn s: New York is...wait for it...a state.

That's right. You heard it here first.

Do you see that ', NY' that follows Syracuse around? That's the abbreviation for 'New York' - the state in which the city of Syracuse and Syracuse University both reside.

I know, I know - your mind...blown.

What I love about this is the simple fact that both UConn and Rutgers fans have insisted in the past that Syracuse was done as a major football program because it's not a state school. And they have puffed out their chests about how proud they are to represent the states of Connecticut and New Jersey respectively and that Syracuse could never attain that type of status in New York State.

But then along comes TGD and he decides SU should try to assume the role of a state school through marketing (is it our fault that no SUNY school has become a major athletic university?) it's "How dare they!"

We are, by deeds, by interest, and a little bit by default, New York (State's) College Team. Nutmeg and Rutgirls fans, my word of advice is - "Get used to it".

Cheers,
Neil

Well said. You nailed it.

Since we're on the topic,...and FWIW...I was at the Brazil vs. Argentina soccer game this past Saturday at MetLife Stadium and I have to say S.U. is defintely going all out advertising the Football games against USC.
I was there with some buddies of mine and they were all psyched about the advertising aproach this game is putting on.
By the way not all SU alumni (UNC, Wisconsin, R.U.) we're impressed with the buzz that its building up slowly but surely. Now all we need is a win agains the trojans and we'll be on the map nationally I guarantee it. JMHO.
Also, considering everyone around us an Argentina or Brazil die-hard soccer fan were certainly intrigued to see the upcoming game being advertised that well.

Kudos to the SU Ahtletics Department, TGD, and all involved with the efforts in getting the school as a whole some very well received exposure. Believe it or not people are noticing, all alumni base from schools in the area are taking notice as well as from around the country. Being that we were in "Rutgers territory" we heard the not so kind words some of their fans have to say...regardles!...Good or Bad press...The word is getting out and people are talking. I for one think is a great thing to see S.U. constantly diplayed on the jumbotron and as a DIE HARD 'CUSE FAN IT WAS AN AWESOME FEELING. GO ORANGE!!!!!!

As for the Soccer game, it was awesome as well...Lionel Messi put on a show.! Argentina won 4-3 on an exciting game exhibiting some of the best futbol in the world. The icing on the cake was all of the 82,000 people who were in attendance were exposed to a very aggresive advertising campaign put on by Syracuse University.
(By the way 82,000 is a record croed attendance so far for an event hosted at the new MetLife Stadium.)

FOR ONE IT CERTAINLY MADE MY DAY! LET'S GO ORANGE!! LET'S GO ORANGE!!

Missed the game, but heard Messi was unbelievable. He really is amazing.

If we can draw 50,000 I would call it a success...we'll see.

Not to mention that, maybe our Husker buddy should (re)take English, since the marketing expression is: "New York's" college team, not NYC metropolitan area's team. Hard to believe this requires an explanation.

people, blue collar people in nyc would riot if anything from jersey claimed they are n.y. teams. bloomberg would have to call in the national guard and the one from jersey too.

Syracuse N.Y. IS WHAT THE POST OFFICE WOULD RECOGNIZE

Jesus better not tell those blue collar people about the Giants!

And guys, seriously, no need to go ape over this.

Like I said, the visibility is a good move for Syracuse.

Obviously we can debate the merits over "New York's Team" ( by the way is NYC considered part of NY? It appears people don't think I understand that one ) but we're going to ultimately disagree.

Your back? Don't you have recruiting news to talk about on your own boaaa... oh wait, nevermind

Jesus better not tell those blue collar people about the Giants!

You mean the same Giants that have their training camp in Albany (the capital of New York State), have Super Bowl victory parades in Manhattan, and (most importantly) call themselves the New York Giants? AND have a head coach that's a 'Cuse alum???

So...

Syracuse plays basketball game in Madison Square Garden = HOME GAME

Syracuse football advertises in Yankee Stadium = OMGWTF SYRACUSE IS LIKE TEN HOURS AWAY!!!!ONE

This is the all-time greatest rebuttal to that argument.

If I could like it more than once, I would have.

Huh? What's there to debate?
If the slogan was "Connecticut's College Team" or even "The North East's College Team" then you might have a point.

By the way, that's "New York's College Team"[tm].

Well, you said this. "it's just kind of funny the University of Maryland is closer to Yankee Stadium". If you realized that NY's Team was about NY State, you'd never have pointed out that Maryland is closer to Yankee Stadium... because that's dumb. Is Maryland closer to Rochester? Is Maryland closer to NY State than Syracuse University is? Apparently, you thought they were marketing SU as "Yankee Stadium's Team".

One word why Rutgirls and UConn fans chirp on this: Jealousy

Seriously, if we're so irrelevant in NYC and Maryland is closer to Yankee Stadium than we are, why do they care?

I didn't look it up before but decided to verify this "fact". Per Google UMD is closer to Yankee Stadium by 9 minutes of drive time (23 miles) - whoopie, solid argument there. The difference is only 28 miles to MSG, but we own that too. Wait a minute, what the heck does Maryland have to do with this?

UConn is only about 28 miles from Yankee Stadium - can you see our sign from campus, is that the problem?

You could add UMD and UConn's distances together and about equal Syracuse's, but we are still "New York's College Team" so deal with it.

UConn is only 28 miles from Yankee Stadium? In what universe?

Storrs to the Bronx is 132 miles.

I agree. I just think it's funny that UConn and Rutgers fans think we're irrelevant in football and in NYC (except MSG) and are quick to point out how close they are, yet they seem genuinely annoyed that we are staking our claim to our state's largest city.
