Dabo just got paid !

The real winners here are the players. A chance at that top-notch education. For free?!

I mean imagine how much money Dabo would bring in if he had no players?

I have no doubt Dino is going to see some sick offers in the next couple of years.

So he can coach outdoors? There are only a handful of places that would be attractive to him. It could happen. A lot depends on timing.

Since the advent of the dome, only two head coaches have left by their choice. Both of them went to the NFL. The first ended up regretting it.

Other than the sentimental reasons I don’t know why he would leave for Bama. He’s a god at Clemson and basically has a 1-2 game regular season with the ACC. His regular season is done after week 3 this year.

Bama he’d have to follow arguably the greatest college coach of all time and then deal with the SEC grind each season.

No doubt he deserves to be paid.

But $9M/yr for a football coach? View attachment 161249
1. He’s probably underpaid. Sports, especially football, have the capacity to make HUGE amounts of money, and the payout is tightly correlated to winning vs losing. Since a strong coach is a key determinant in how much a team wins, string coaches a worth a lot.
2. Schools like SU can not afford to not open the piggy bank when it comes to revenue sport coaches, given that the market is probably still not efficient (wages are notorious for lagging). (We got Dino and Jimmy, so we’re good. This statement is more of a general one aimed at the bozos who can only think in terms of costs.)
3. As a general statement (not aimed at you), this site’s bizarre fascination with Rutgers and Clemson is weird - like Dabo.

And the second went to his dream job.

(That was too much of a layup to miss.)

I meanBowling Green played outdoors
I mean, he's not going anywhere where he will have to deal with cold and snow now that he has an ideal playing conditions. If you're not a school in the SEC, Texas, Arizona or California then he likely won't be interested.

Might he pull a Charlie Strong and roll the dice at a high profile/pressure location after he's won the ACC? Yup, he might. Or, would he stick around and win the ACC a few more times with a shot at the playoffs? If he's successful here and the family likes the area, why not ride it out and be the modern day Ben and win a championship in Whose House? The Dino/Dabo/Willie wars could get very interesting...

That’s a far cry from “Can he coach outdoors?”.

The answer is unequivocally “yes.” I just have no idea what he’s going to do beyond that.

???
If I add the implied "that" to my original statement to make it read: "So that he can coach outdoors?"
Does that change anything for you?

Short of someone offering Dino a gazillion $$, here are the P-5 destinations that might be attractive:
  • ACC
Boston College, Clemson, Duke, FSU, GA Tech, Louisville, Miami, UNC, NC State, Pitt, Wake Forest, Virginia, VPI
  • Big Ten (errr, 14)
Indiana, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan St., Minnessota, Nebraska, Northwestern, O$U, PSU, Purdue, Rutgers
  • Big Twelve (errr, 9)
Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, KSU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas, Texas Tech, WfVU
  • PAC Twelve
Arizona, ASU, Cal, UCLA, Colorado, Oregon, Oregon State, USC, Stanford, Utah, Washington, WSU
  • SEC
Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi, Mississippi St., Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt
So, there you have my potential 14 P-5 destinations for Dino. Such a move would require major success for the Orangemen and (in)appropriate timing.

Dabos salary is $110,000 per player.(or $425k per starter)

There's enough entitlement in the world as it is.

Seeing how they are the reason he's able to make 9.3M per season, the least they should able to do is market their likenesses. If they have value, they'll quickly find out on the free market.

Strength and conditioning coaches are hardly doing the jobs of brain surgeons... but they're getting paid like they are.

Don't tell me "Oh it's what the market dictates" because that's only because you're getting interns to move your products.

Coaches are getting paid 9 million dollars a year because the schools need to burn the money somewhere to show their not "making money"

It's truly unbelievable.

Uh, no.

GOOD S&C coaches are incredibly valuable.
Just look at the difference w/ our players NOW, vs. what we rolled out under the prior regime.
It's like night & day. Coach E and crew are doing AMAZING work w/ these young men.
The size AND speed increases are remarkable.

IF it was so easy, how come our prior teams didn't have remotely that success?

Clemson was wise to give Dabo that raise.
He's as "locked in" as could possibly be, and IF he leaves for 'Bama or the NFL, then Clemson will likely get a massive buyout paid back to them, to fund paying for their next guy.

Which is part of why Syracuse gave Dino an extension.
(clearly not to the same level as Dabo, but probably as much as we could reasonably afford)
