Dajuan Coleman

He's a great hustle player. I appreciate him for effort.

But, i'm still so discouraged by the lack of development. Everything offensively comes from below the shoulders. He's always at risk to be stripped or blocked. It's unreal that a person of his size is so consistently molested for the ball. He often choreographs or over-complicates his moves. And, his one go-to move seems to be a quick spin where he slams his elbow into the defender's kidney, to create space — but he never ends up with any space!

He and Rak haven't progressed more than mere experience would dictate. I mean, damn — wasn't Coleman sitting at a table in high school, choosing between Kentucky and Syracuse caps? Could you imagine him at Kentucky playing like this at this point? He had one play, in the five games in which we've seen him this year, in which he converted because he kept the ball high, and we're applauding him for that as if it were the invention of the scoopless litter box. One play. This is big time college, folks.

I love this guy. He's got the heart. He's got the body. But, it shouldn't take a 'beast' three attempts to convert in the paint. Against Canada, Fordham, and... who?

Someone else needs to coach the bigs.

I wasn't able to watch/attend the game because I had a 3 hour class, but until DC learns to take that double pump crap out of his game, he hasn't lived up to his potential. He has some tremendous skills on the offensive end, and he's a very valuable rebounder and outlet passer, but you just can't play at the college level with such a basic flaw in your game. He could easily average a double double for us if he cuts that one thing out of his game.

They should take one of those mats that they hit players with so that they can practice finishing through contact and just hold it across his chest so that he can't bring the ball down on drills at all. Everytime the ball touches the mat, he runs. You'd think it would eventually get through to him that way.

The truth of the matter is that last night, on display were both the old habits which have limited his playing time and some promising new wrinkles which are indicative of improvement and development on his part. I think the tenor of some of the comments here is because some people had expectations which weren't in line with what we've seen thus far. In addition to the spiffy drive to the basket I was equally impressed by the play when he just stood his ground defensively and did not fall for the ball fake or jump up and foul the shooter who was facing up to the basket. I thought that was as emblematic a moment defining progress on his part as the drive to the basket.

The reality of it all is that DC2 is going to show some of the "pound the ball to the floor", "not keep the ball up high in traffic", and other nuances which drive us all crazy while he continues to progress. The good news is that he is looking more and more like a 4 year player and even though he isn't the monster player some of us had hoped to see from the get-go, he is a considerable force with lots of up-side to develop into and I'm really happy that he is Orange.

It's early in what is only his 2nd season and there is much about DC2 to be very excited about. Patience, patience, patience...

I agree with this. He looked like AO on that play as he moved forward enough to cut off the path to the basket, but then just waited to see what the kid would do.

Not so easy. Perfect a bad habit and 99% of the time its not correctable. This is NOT a big man coach issue!

Coleman had 10 rebounds in 19 minutes. 10 rebounds, 19 minutes.

Of those 10, 7 were offensive rebounds.

He adds undeniable value to the Orange when he's on the court.

Against Monmouth last year, he went 11 and 14

Against Central Connecticut State, he went 13 and 9

He played well last night against a team that ran 4 guard sets. But, I personally didn't see anything last night to make me think he can be a 10 and 10 against a mid level ACC team. He is still a bull in a china shop that can do a lot of quality things when he is bigger then the opponent.

I hope I am wrong.

In my opinion he wasn't

Our forwards always rebounded well he played if you remember. I thought he was great at occupying other players, taking up space and making harder for guys to swoop in from out top.

I just always thought that was the weakest part of his game, and those teams were not good rebounding teams outside of Rick Jackson.

Donte was above average, Paul did very well for his size, Kong was good and Rick was the best of the group for sure but the guard rebounding really hurt us before Jonny and Devo departed. AO's senior season everyone rebounded well with the exception of Scoop.

He didn't get any time against anyone else, he was also suffering from a nagging knee injury.

I hope he gets his shot against Indiana, Nova and Minnesota.

My first instinct as a Celtics fan when I see him is to think of Big Baby Davis... I mean he carried LSU to the Final Four. I just see so much potential in Coleman and I think he's on the cusp of realizing it.

I hope you're right. But at this point in his career, he doesn't exactly seem "on the cusp of realizing [his potential]"

He has a bunch of things working against him:
He is an undersized center at 6-9
He has a nasty habit of bringing the ball down
He has no post moves/bad footwork
And perhaps most worrisome of all, his defense is really, really poor.

He seems like a great teammate that plays with great passion. I'm really pulling for him, but I don't really expect much this year.

IMHO, Coleman has shown improvement, even kept the ball high for a putback once. The drive, spin and left handed finish was pretty sweet. He also dribbled a bit against Cornell surprisingly well. I know JB is feeding the bigs against the cupcakes to work them and we may not see this against ACC, but I like that both Coleman and Rak are trying to take advantage of these opportunities.
