I understand your frustration, you saw a game slip from your hands in heartbreaking fashion. 5 points in 17.2 seconds. I saw a team that shored up their defense in the second half, attacked the zone by making inside passes, and overall had players with higher bball iq. Impartiality aside, how can you not like this Nova team? There's not one star player, and they dive for every loose ball. You guys showed that you're better than your record indicates but still have a lot of issues to work on. Don't beat on me guys. I needed this win because my Eagles just got eliminated from the playoffs afterwards.

Let me help you with this. You're a nova fan who thinks you're going to suddenly convince us that we didn't get ass banged by the three blind mice today. This in a game in which you shot 14 more free throws, we had our front court foul out and your starting center didn't have a foul called on him in a freaking brawl type game.

PS. Nobody here cares about your team. At all.

The Eagles thing was rough. That game got away from you at the end like this game did from SU.

Dude. Guess what. Syracuse collapsed in the final seconds and the officiating was atrocious. Both of those occurred. They aren't mutually exclusive.

I don't know what else to say. There is complaining about officiating when your team loses and then there is complaining about officiating when it clearly influenced the game. These are facts. Guess what? If SU won, which we should have, the officiating would still have been trash and influenced the game.

As for Villanova? They'll get a high seed and lose early...again.

Most people here, key word most, are reasonable posters. I consider myself in this group (despite what some may say :) ).

1. Syracuse's errors down the stretch played a role in the loss and were controllable

2. The blatant inconsistency and lack of logic to the officiating played a role in the loss, and this is uncontrollable

Both of these occurred today. I don't know what else needs to be said.

I do feel Nova is a good team, they played a awfull first half.

But when mccullough is out from the 19 minute mark to the 4 minute mark with four and fouls out crowd surfing for the fifth time our players got undercut in midair, while nova is elbow plowing into the low post with the bigs, and arciano stops drops and rolls to get whistles while nova handchecks the pass receiver all night, it infuences the game all right.

What hurts most is we really needed a OOC win, 1 loss for nova means almost nothing.

Just looking at the look on Christmas face the last 10 minutes of the game said everything, he was pissed over all the BS but continued to stay focuse. He wouldn't even look at the refs for the last 10 minutes not once, I don't think he could stomach to.

Aww poor baby. It's all about you isn't it? I will repeat myself cause it obviously didn't sink in the first time: a team cannot win going 5 on 8. Which is what SU faced today. Even at least one Nova fan acknowledged it outright. But you, who allegedly admires the Orange enough to have the nickname of one of the stars of our championship year, can't. With friends like you who needs enemies?

The refs were awful and one sided. Oh and how bout dem cowboys!!

As an SU fan and an Eagles fan --it was a bad day.

I don't know. I thought Nova was overrated going in and they proved it by needing insane no calls and gimmes from the refs.

If I was a Nova fan, I'd be worried. Oh wait - the play a mid-major conference schedule now.

it'll be almost a carbon copy of last year for them - gaudy record and obscene over-seded and then done by the second weekend

you guys have to calm down. Apologies for posting so close to a rough loss. I watched the full game, and didn't see the issues you guys are talking about. Although i've often been on the other end of that, so I understand. It's a lot easier in football to see as a fan of the other team if the refs are making the right calls.

You'd have to be blind or not understand the game very well to not "see the issues you guys are talking about."

I'd have no problem giving your team credit if they deserved it. You didn't deserve it, in large part due to the travesty that was today's officiating.

It would be one thing if you came here and acknowledged that there were some questionable calls, but you were happy they went your way. For you to say that that there were no issues with the officiating demonstrates that you are miles away from objective.

On a certain level it's basic logic - a soft zone team that doesn't attack on offense gets a lot more fouls called than a severe MTM team that rushes the tin on offense. This is intramural Joe Lurie bad stuff out there...

I'm perfectly calm, dude. Calmer than you are.

And you seriously don't understand basketball if you can't see the issues. I mean that in the most serious manner possible, by the way.

Apology partly accepted. But it's really not great to keep insisting you are right when you keep ignoring a dozen or more who refute your claims with evidence. Yes we are upset, but many specific examples of no calls for Villanova and to a lesser extent phantom calls on SU were cited. If you have the game taped I suggest you re watch it minus the wildcat glasses. If you don't have it taped you might check fox sports to see if they have the replay online like espn frequently does.

reminds of the games against storz when Thabeet would get maybe one foul call when he should have fouled out.

Ochefu is not a physical big and he plays like 22 minutes a game. Relax. The refs weren't great both ways, but I don't think they had a huge influence on the game.
The officiating decided OT...when our entire front line fouls out, its kind of a mismatch at that point

When the rare time we get the benefit of the refs calls ( there were a few games last year) I point that out too.
Villanova looks to me like a solid team. The almost have a Pitt feel to them. Which means a "lose early" in the tournament.
PS Could you imagine the roasting Archidiagido would get if he played like that for us. Their back court has issues too, but Hart adn the kid that got the concussion were a lot better than I thought they were. Ennis on the other hand, not so much.

Go away

Foul disparity would have been even worse if nova was not forced to foul in the final minutes.

It would have been EVEN worse if the refs hadn't "suddenly" woken up and called three inconsequential "hand-check/body" type fouls starting with about 6 mins to go. Completely inconsistent with how they'd been calling the game. I personally think that all the money in sports has corrupted the game(s) so I'm not above thinking there is nonsense going on.

But, with about 6 mins left, and Villanova having only had 2 fouls called on them, all of a sudden, they whistled two or three fouls on them 30 feet from the basket that didn't need to be called. No impact, sideline inbounds. Actually made it harder on us because now we have to inbound.

If you wanted to think there was something fishy going on though, that does nothing to dispute the notion

Villanova had 10 less fouls than Syracuse and Dylan Ennis, who was terrible yesterday, was the only 'Nova player to foul out. Meanwhile both of Syracuse's top scorers fouled out and the most talented player on the court fouled out (though he wasn't having a good game). Villanova shot 14 more free throws than Syracuse and made 13 more free throws because of it.

To be fair, Villanova is an excellent team and contrary to what some are saying the Big East is far from a mid-major conference.

And given our lead at the time, those late inconsequential calls were of potential benefit to Nova to get us to a end of game one and one situation which could have benefited them while at the same time making the foul calls appear more balanced.
