I liked Gill a lot. The fact that he is leaving (as are so many others), and strangers are taking their place, makes rooting for SU difficult at times (this would be an example of understatement.)

There. I've said the most obvious thing we're all experiencing. It's not so much the Stockholm Syndrome as it is Syracuse athletic Syndrome. If things don't improve soon, it will be PTSD.

Well, it's all part of my New Year's resolution to be "clear and honest" in analyzing situations that arise. As a coping mechanism I find myself resorting to watching Hogans Heroes more and more lately. This is especially effective when Major Hochstetter (Howard Caine) shows up at Stalag 13.

I like Gill and thought he was a good player but once they leave SU for another team I have no real interest in following them. Not that I want him to do bad just no interest once he leaves.
College sports is a pure business now. Both the player and team make a business decision. The player or his agent determines in their mind the players value and the school determines if the value is worth it. Now a few schools seem to have unlimited money and can over pay to stock pile players. Most schools have to do a cost benefit analysis. Can they get a similar player for less money which allows them to fill other needs or is losing the player going to greatly impact the overall team that they spend the money. Only time will tell which decision was right.

This is professional sports now. I don’t wish him ill will, but i will not be hoping for him to succeed. Hes not different from Carter, Duce, Pena, etc. They forfeit their ability to come “home” 5, 10, 20 years from now. I doubt he will be in Fran’s Syracuse 60 program once next season is over and if he doesn’t catch on with a team. Past time that we just root for the cloth and the real ones like OG, Lequint, Mikel, Wax, Barron, Tucker, etc. that stuck it out and will be welcomed back for the rest of their lives.

The Syracuse 60 program is very interesting advantage players give up with the portal. I’m not saying other schools don’t have connections for employment but one year rentals may not have the same loyalty with alumni. Yes they get a bag of money but how far does that go if they don’t make the pros. After taxes, agents, hanger ons and potential excessive purchases may be very little left. I know a lot may have financial advisors but also thought it was great Fran made them invest 60%. Fran understands how these moments for most players are fleeting. Wonder how many other coaches or schools require the players to invest a large portion of their money.

Ha me too, seeing episodes of all in the family I’ve never seen! Too funny

This is professional sports now.

It's not even professional sports, it's its own thing (how about my apostrophe usage?)

No professional sport would ever allow this kind of player movement to chase the best deal every single year. Plus a professional sport usually has a person in charge. There's nothing like that here.

I still say pay him. He could be a 1000 yd guy in this offense and teach new guys what to do. Sr leadership is the thing u strive to have in all spots. Hatcher - Gill, qb- Steve, oline Mack and Florida st guy, rb is not sure. Defense Perry dline, lb will be new Toledo kid and Bryant, and back field will be ?. Kinda why we need a really good safety to come into the fold and help Peal here in leadership department.

We are/did pay him to a certain point.

Unfortunately Gill is a VERY hot commodity in the portal. Gill loves Cuse and loves Fran Brown...but when you are getting the offer$$$ he is getting, it would be hard pressed to stay around.

Now ultimately we will have to see, sometimes you take these big money offers from these large public universities and you do not see the field. This ultimately hurts future earnings because you no longer are standing out like you were on the smaller market teams.

I hope the best for Gill. Fantastic kid, fantastic athlete. Would love nothing more to keep him here.

Would be interesting if he follows the same page as Damien Alford to transfer to play under Whittingham and barely touch the field.
Won’t happen. Alford had to kind of grow into his body and skill set. This kid is already there, has the hands the speed and the shake and bake moves you just can’t teach.

As I said in his thread he’s the only one I’m bummed about.

Gill was always overrated because he made some highlight reel catches. He is replaceable. We will miss Cook more because of his speed. We don't have a burner at receiver right now which every team needs. Demetreus Smuels seems like our fastest player but didn't click on offense.

You know Gill ran track right? Cook wasn't as fast, talented yes, faster than Gill? No. After seeing James depart at RB you would think folks wouldn't make speed be the end all be all in their analysis.

I kind of feel like Gill would have been this year’s Pena if Angeli hadn’t gotten hurt.

We will have a lot of talent at the position next season so not worried about it.

he couldn’t get separation to save his life against quality corners and his route running was poor

he had great hands tho and most of tds he had were simply due to speed and height.

So if he wanted to donate 1m to the program if he went pro, you'd say no? Come on. If he wants to come back he can come back.
