THe thing you are missing is he asked him to stay. They had a meeting just the week before talking about how the next year would go and that Darrell was "his man". At the same time, he was letting those he didn't want to stay, know. He never told Darrell he didn't want him next season. Just the opposite. If Darrell didn't ask for that 2nd meeting to ask a couple of questions, none of this would have happened, and he would still be with the team.
But I also can add, that I was told by several players family members throughout the season that a lot of players had an issue with Fran and he had lost the team early on, even before the Angelli injury. I just let it in one ear and out the other but now see the problem. It isn't even the DART aspect. I just think he is not a "players coach" He doesn't value the players enough or let that be known.
Again, I want Fran to succeed. I think he is the right coach for Syracuse. He just still has a learning curve, and Gill is a portion of that learning curve. My purpose is more to defend Darrell as he is really just s great person. None of this should have happened the way it did, and I am mostly trying to defend the Gills in all of this. Seriously the nicest family, and a lot of you met them as I brought them to our tailgates a couple of times.
