Dash cams-anyone have one?

Not even sure which forum to post this to. I've been thinking maybe put a dash cam on my holiday list, since I'm so hard to shop for. Wondering if anyone has one. I go online and read the reviews and would probably look at the Garmins, just because I'm happy with their products, but people talk about using up the charge in the car battery and some other stuff.

It's probably just a matter of time before all cars have one, so I don't know if I should just wait.

They seem to be cheap enough where it makes sense to me not to wait. I need to pick up some for the kiddos, and should get one for the motorhome too. It's wild out there the last few years, man. I've never seen so many bad drivers in my life. It also seems like there's an increase in lawsuits too. My stepdaughter had someone cut into her lane on the highway, then hit the breaks. Rear ended her. We're being sued for over $200k lol. Having that dashcam proof would have been handy.
Long story short- I'm in the market too. Let me know if you pick a favorite.

I'm sure any camera that is storing data will need an account and monthly subscription. I've seen some videos online of dash cams at night- it's wild how clear it is

You put one of those thing a ma bobs in it and it stores your info so you can put it into a thing a ma jig and see what it records. Easy peasy

That's rough that you are getting sued. I guess these three Garmin's are on sale, and I also saw a Garmin at Best Buy for $99.99. I just need to see what the differences are.

Not sure what kind of social media you mess with, but this is where tiktok and instagram reels are actually helpful. Search the item and you'll find multiple quick video reviews.

Thanks. I also did a quick search for dash cams on Reddit, and there is a 72,000 member Dashcam thread, plus some other great links, like one in the Frugal thread. Not that I am frugal, but I am from upstate NY. LOL.

I also want one. Wanna be on the safe side with all the crazy stuff I’ve seen on YouTube. And I think some are motion sensor at night if someone tries to break in or they just run all night?

Nice thread. I’m also in the market, but never thought to post techy topics on this forum.

Right now, I’m leaning towards the VIOFO A229 Plus for front and rear recording. Currently $190 at the big river store.

From what I’ve read, looking for cameras that use Sony STARVIS 2 Sensors is the way to go. That might just be for my budget though.

Also, don’t skimp on the memory card. Get a good high endurance card. Camera is no good, if you go to get the footage and your low end card crapped out.
