Phew, that was too close for comfort. And a dreary wet day on top of it. But let’s talk all things NOT football.
I’ll get the judgmental stuff out of the way first. My wife would say”stop being so judgy”, but as I told one of my section neighbors yesterday, “I’ve reached the age of being able to complain about everything”. Don’t judge me for judging.
Keep in mind, I sit right next to the student section…
As I do after every first game of the season, I mention the fashion choices of the school year. This year, as in years past, there are some oddities. The boys, well I guess they like orange and blue striped overalls. They’ve been available for years, and now all of a sudden they’re wearing them in packs. Many without shirts, and all with one strap not done. Personally I don’t like the look, but do your own thing, don’t walk around like the girls all wearing the same thing. The other look was the golf shirt under a zip up vest.
Many of the girls as in years past went for the “I’m going to the Morgan Wallen concert” look. But I saw some trailblazers doing something I’ve never seen. One side of the tee tucked up under the bra area, in an effort to show off the rib area tattoo. I even saw some of them without tats with Otto stickers on their belly where the shirt is lifted. Is this like the days where boys would wear only one sleeve of a hoodie? Smart enough to go to school, but not to dress themselves. Also with the girls, every one of them with a coat or sweater on, had them off both shoulders. It was reasonably cold in there. Ya know a coat works a lot better when it’s on all the way.
To the usher guy in 331… I don’t know how you do it. That initial fill-in of students guarantees a certain percentage of them sitting wherever they please outside of the student section. He constantly has to walk up the stairs and tell these kids to move, and then maybe 50% of the time takes crap from these knuckleheads. He needs hazard pay.
Lastly, regarding the students, the amount of “instagramming” I saw yesterday was nauseating. Pose after pose after pose after hair fling after lip pucker, etc. “okay here’s your phone now you do me”. Said usher had a front row seat to this all day as they posed with the field behind them in front of the rail. You’re right, I don’t understand. But you do look silly.
After going to the fair last Sunday, today was the second time in one week of seeing a kid on a leash. Some of you may approve, I do not. It’s gross. Been complaining about that my whole life.
While I did not partake in Miron yesterday, I’m happy to see this new revolving specialty menu item I’ve been hearing about. Yesterday was Connecticut style lobster rolls, and yes they looked good. Would love to hear someone who had one’s opinion of how it was. I understand pulled pork sandwiches is another option coming.
Sound wise, I feel like it was better than it often is. If anyone else noticed, while the band guy yelling in the mic was inaudible as usual, the Army swear-in guy simply just “talking” into the mic was crystal clear. Maybe we’re starting to learn something here!
I know sutomcat mentioned his disdain for the “let’s go orange” chant segment with the cheerleaders. I mentioned that many times when the cheerleader would have a mic screaming into it. However, I jumped on board a season or two ago when they started having a little kid lead the cheer. I thought it worked better, it was cute. Yesterday, they had a kid with a sign. No mic, nothing to lead the crowd in the cheer. Total bomb. Tom and I can both agree it needs to at least be fixed.
Last but not least, sitting with only a railing dividing me and the student section, I’m seeing a lot of traffic up and down the stairs. Is it just me, or do others feel you should treat it like the road? Just stay to the right. It’s not hard. The amount of times I see a jam due to a face to face run in is absurd.
Oh well, that’s all I have to moan about. I’ll be absent for Colgate, so you get a break from this next week!
