A lot of people here probably never heard of him. He was lightening rod of controversy regarding how the NFL treated it's players

Wow. I had never heard of him until now but have come away thoroughly impressed. Only listened to the first video but it held my attention for the entirety. I'll definitely read up about him. Definitely did NOT expect to see Joplin next to him, lol. Louis Lane as well? Nice lineup.

For some reason, the site wouldn't let me respond to your post yesterday. I read Dave Meggesy's book as a young teen, about the same time I also read Johnny Sample's "Confessions of a Dirty Ballplayer". Great books on the underbelly of big time sports.

Heck of a guest on the couch, huh? The way Janis was stroking his arm, you could tell she was liking that big strong football guy next to her on the couch.

I read and re-read Out of Their League when I was younger. Even now, the dog-eared copy is in a box somewhere in my basement.

Dave was a great SU player and his book was controversial in its day. A lot of SU folks didn't like the fact that some of our dirty secrets were aired, but that's what went on at that time. We weren't even as bad as what went on at the true football factories, as Dave himself pointed out.

Kind of reminds you how much of a throwback Joe Paterno was. Players would commit criminal acts and he'd "take care of it" by having them do physical penance.

But Meggyesy's main point was that football is dehumanizing because each play consists of man to man battles for domination. Hard to disagree, but does that mean we should drop the sport? Or sports in general?
