Not too surprising, as their fundraising staff is enormous and they have a large amount of very wealthy alumni,.

well, you would be wrong. The $$$ is going to the power 5. It will wear down the non power 5. We don't need a conference rival within 3 hrs of Balt/Wash or d.c. We are a national program.

I disagree on both counts. Not having any sort of meaningful conference rival outside of BC even remotely close to the NE is not a good long-term plan. The fact that everyone wants UConn and G'town to dwindle and fade away is proof of just how great those rivals are. That's the whole point.

Not to mention the fact that people get irate that he's 'giving money to g'town' but not irate at all that he's donating huge coin to build a completely frivilous basketball only practice facility. I mean, it's fine with me b/c I like seeing good college hoops but on the scale philanthropy I'm pretty sure those donations are pretty low.

It's hard for me to separate an SU grad helping out Georgetown...I know who he is, and that bothers me even more. Where was he for our basketball facility? Now Georgetown is going to have something comparable to us? Doesn't seem right.

And I felt it was worth noting that he didn't just give money to the school - he started a new academic program and endowed a professor's position.
