David Summers - Can we burn his redshirt ?

I never said start him but not exactly sure with Devito's obvious injury that he shouldn't be ready to go. I would at least get him some more work. If Devito is really injured and needs to sit, how would Summers be that much worse than Culpepper? I guess my point is that neither of Devito's backups are serviceable today. He is 4th on depth chart because he is a RS.

Well that is a different take and one that I don't necessarily disagree with as far getting someone else some reps with Devito clearly not 100%. However, that would be Welch or Culpepper as they are definitely ahead of Summers. Thats not to say we have Frank Reich on teh bench in either of those two (trust me don't) but Summers needs this RS year and it would be pointless to play him when you have two guys ahead of him who are not only better right now but have been in the system 3 years each.

I am not sold at all on Clayton Welch only because he has like what 10 attempts ? He is a Senior but has gotten so little playing time that he cannot be really "serviceable"

but we should put in a true freshman with 0 attempts who wasn't some 5 star Tua/Trevor kind of kid?

(checks ACC stats, see’s Tommy yards per game is higher and completion % is better than some guy T.Lawrence, closes thread)

He’s not been perfect, but people giving up on him already is bonkers.

In any case, and not the best point made here by a long shot, but I thought Summers was on the injury list/not available?

He Stats certainly do not tell the full story. Something going on with him, skiddish, injured, not seeing guys. I wonder if he is hurt really badly. I guess my point is, is burning Summers Redshirt really such a huge thing if Devito is hurt? Maybe Summers hurt too, I don't know. Also not sold that Welch and/or Culpepper would be next up if needed. Culpepper with position change and what he has been through and Welch with basic lack of any experience. 5 attempts in 5 years...

Not as off the wall as some of people think. Again I never said start him but Devito not looking right...Rest him if he is hurt. He is the future and honestly, I'd rather he come back healthy next year once season is out of reach (which it isnt yet)

Anyone calling for tommy to be benched now is out of their mind. We have no other competent QB's on the roster which is on DB, Rex is not even close, welch is not a D1 QB and summers will obviously take some time. Tommy clearly has made lots of mistakes some which don't show up on the stat sheet. The only solution for this in my opinion is next year bring in a grad transfer not to start or even take tommy's job but to give him some competition and if he struggles then we have a QB with experience to play. I don't like to compare Tommy to other QB's as they are all different but it's his 3rd year here and he got a decent amount of experience last season. Most on this board including myself will take a bowl game. A lot went well with last years team and we had an incredible season. Their are some things I don't like about what Dino & Co. have done so far but we should be ok and make a bowl and continue getting the program back where it belongs. GO CUSE!!!

I agree with this take but what if he is hurt badly ? Does he continue to play through it if it jeopardizes next year too ? I am not sure what is wrong with him but something does not look right with his body language and wincing when he is hit. I cannot assume that he is just a big wuss, he must be injured bad.

A few times he just fell down yesterday before taking a hit. Once again, not questioning his toughness but questioning his health.

He's not getting benched. It's crazy talk. The staff has zero confidence in what's behind him anyway.

That said, the backups better be ready. Tommy isn't healthy, and he's one awkward tackle away from not being able to get up. There were a couple yesterday where I didn't think he was going to. Teams are going to try to expose that.

Tommy has the game moving too fast for him right now.. some of it is on him.. but some of it is on the coaches IMO.. Now add in the really bad OL play.. not just with whom ever is calling the OL protections but also the simple fact our center is out of position and should be playing tackle.. its a combo of issues.. I am actually impressed with DeVito considering all the above

There were a few of those “sacks” where he fell down a yard or two before the LOS that I thought he was hurt and could feel the pain coming if he got hit. I think babers did him a disservice leaving him once there if that’s the case

QB play is a major issue but it seems like we have no options.

Really sad to be in Year 4 of a coach that was hired for his offensive ability, and have an offense that is one of the worst in the conference.

I know we can all blame the OL as well, and rightfully so, but if we had Dungey on a bad day, we probably score 30+.

There were QB running lanes all over the place and Devito refused to make throws, time after time, that were there.

I can’t imagine it could be worse, but without an OL or running game, I’m sure it could.

The guy can at least learn this year and accelerate having a serviceable backup

We have to stop with the Dungey tall tales. That's not helping.
